This is more or less a note to myself since this keeps coming up:


When MusicBee Wifi Sync can't find the server, try clearing the app's storage first (or reinstall).  Ignore the warning about having to sync by wired first and just continue.

Thanks for this. This should get pinned or added to an FAQ (if already there, I missed it). Been going crazy trying to figure out why I can't get this to work, but clearly storage seems to be the trick. Much appreciated!

If wired sync isn't working, you've got something else going on. Is the phone unlocked when you connect it to USB? Make sure it is. And if you haven't done a wired sync before, you need to do one (or at least a wired preview) before the WiFi sync will work.

Wired sync works now and worked before. When wifi sync wouldn't work, I tried everything I could think of - one of which was to sync wired once and hope wifi would work after. Wifi still didn't work after that though. I've tried everything I can think of and still can't get it to work. It's just odd that it worked fine before my two week trip, but when I came back it won't.

I'm using an LG V20 running Android OS v8 with a 512gb sd card and having no issues. I'd suggest uninstalling the WiFi app from the phone, restarting the phone, and then reinstalling the app. If that doesn't solve the issue, you may have to turn on the app's logging feature, but I'd wait until Steven weighs in on this.

Thanks - I did just try this now and still no luck. I've restarted phone and laptop, used VPN, turned off VPN, tried wired sync to see if it work after ... nothing seems to work.

Any tips on how to QA issues? I've got an old phone (LG V30) that I use for music and backup sim card - i.e. its on old version of Android and won't get update. Wifi Sync worked fine before I took a trip. Came back home and I can't get anything except the "Server not found. Ensure MusicBee is running and Windows Firewall is not blocking MusicBee". I did nothing to either the phone or the laptop on my trip, home internet is the same as before i left, etc. No change and I'm stuck on how to QA to fix.

Thanks.  Can move.  The reason I posted here is the only change that I made was to copy in the version Steven added a few posts above, so assume there is a downstream impact.

Posting here but I can start a new thread if deemed unrelated.  The syncing worked well for a few days, but now I am running into an issue where the MusicBee app shows that playlists are copied but the phone doesn't have the file.  I try and sync a ~10 playlists and 4 or 5 will show on the phone, but all 10 show they were copied by MusicBee.  I don't believe I changed any setting.  I have tried QA'ing, but without luck.  The one thing that I have figured out is that if I sync the playlists one at a time they seem to work.  It also isn't the first 4 or 5 playlists that sync, it seems to be random scattered throughout the order MusicBee shows them.

Huge improvement - much appreciated.  A playlist that took ~15 minutes now takes 70 seconds; one that took ~3 hours now takes 90 seconds; one that took ~14 hours now takes 5 minutes.

the ones yesterday were one session.  I followed up with one this morning ... that was a different session, but I started it only about 30 minutes after the first session as I needed to use my phone for a bit.  I'll run through a couple now and shoot you the results.

sure, but the issue is from the time I click Synchronize to the point the playlist starts copying.  On the one that I just sent you, I hit Synchronize but the copying line did now show for a full 15 minutes.  The problem seems to be at that point.  The longer the playlist, the longer that "pre-processing" for lack of better way to say it takes.  The one that I sent you is the exactly playlist from the earlier test (the on that took 12 minutes).  It takes a bit longer not (~18 minutes) with the new debug version.

Sure, willing to help with that ... but before I do, something happened today that may give you insight and it relates to your comment above.  I bought a new laptop and decided to start using the portable version.  When I did, the phone would not show up to sync ... until I selected the Detect MTP devices.  I am confused, as the phone didn't take long to sync when I initially purchased it, but based on your comment above this is the likely cause.  The phone is a Moto X4 running Android 8.0 and I am wondering if there is some setting or security that is causing it.  Unfortunately, I don't recall what I did when I originally set up the phone on the non-portable version many months ago.

Any thoughts on this?  I've tried what I could, but still the long times.  Even with no new songs being copied over (just playlists with songs already synced), it takes hours.

One other note that might be of help in addition to my previous post - on the sync status screen, the playlist file doesn't even show up for the vast majority of the ~15 minutes that I referenced above.  Once it actually shows on that screen, the sync is completed relatively quickly.
