So here's what I want to achieve: I want an option to autotag tracks by the artist name alone, but I want to have my own custom genre tags database as the source and not Last.fm, Discogs, or whatever. I have almost 10k tracks that I need to tag the genre of, and it's pretty damn tedious to do it manually, but I also don't want to use a database that someone else made, I want to use my own. Is that even possible?

Questions / Is there a way to autotag genres from a custom user database?
« on: October 01, 2022, 07:17:59 PM »
So like you can set MB up to autotag from genre databases from other websites, but I can't seem to find a way to autotag from custom data directly. Yes, I know I could just use databases that already exist, but I'm finicky that way and have my own ideas lol.

For instance, let's say I want to tag "Acid King - Drive Fast, Take Chances" and all Acid King tracks that come into my library from that point on as "insert custom value here", it can be tedious to do so without autotag, especially when you have your own personal database/system you like to use and want to use certain tags only for certain artists or certain tracks and have a library of over 8000 tracks.

When editing the genre of a track and saving it, it assigns that genre to the track itself but a lot of my music has multiple artists, some of which who make different genres of music than the other. So when I sort or search by genre, artists that shouldn't be popping up, pop up because they collaborated on a track with an artist who is in the genre I was looking for.

As the title says, when viewing the thumbnail browser, column browser, etc. by genre, it would be nice to input a description telling you about the genre itself via wikipedia descripion of the genre or manually from the user that pops up when you mousover a genre.

Questions / Multiple selections in tag hierarchy?
« on: March 25, 2021, 11:19:13 PM »
Is this possible? Is there a way to suggest this to be implemented? I really like the feature in column browser and I would find it very useful for the tag hierarchy as well.

Questions / Re: Tag explorer edits not showing up

A node only shows if there are one or more matching tracks in the current tab

Right, but I already have tracks with these genres I edited in, so they should be showing up, but are not.

Questions / Tag explorer edits not showing up
« on: February 20, 2021, 10:24:45 AM »
I'm not 100% sure if I am editing it correctly or not, but several of my edits I have made won't even show up in the explorer panel. Is this a bug? Or am I just not getting how to do this correctly?

Questions / Autotag by track window cuts off
« on: October 10, 2020, 12:45:27 AM »
I'm using Windows 7, have my screen resolution up all the way and I can't resize the window. How do I fix this? I haven't used the feature since before I updated Musicbee and it was fine then.

Questions / Is there a way to separate columns?
« on: May 25, 2020, 03:52:47 PM »
Hi, I love everything about musicbee...except 1 minor detail in the UI, there are no lines separating the columns which makes it incredibly hard for me to see when I'm trying to put in info on a blank track via the main panel. Like I like how there are alternate shades of color separating every other track row with a lot of the skins available, but when you have a wall of tracks with no other info than the track name and artist, everything just kinda melts together horizontally and I hate it. I attached an example of what I want it to look like, sorry for only the 1 line, I couldn't figure out how to move my pen tool path in photoshop to put lines for each column.

Beyond MusicBee / Re: Music genealogy - genre/subgenre visualizations

There's this: http://www.musicgenreslist.com/

And this: http://www.musicmap.info/#

And this: http://www.allmusic.com

...Which isn't technically a genre list, but the way that they catalog their genres is good for referencing.

MusicBee Wishlist / A couple of shuffle settings suggestions
« on: August 11, 2017, 10:14:45 PM »
When I want my playlists on shuffle, it doesn't matter what I currently have the shuffle settings set to, I always end up hearing the same songs over again within an hour and some songs never get played at all. What I want is when I turn shuffle on, and listen to each song equally sometimes. I want the option for shuffle to give priority to track I've played the least amount of times.

I also want the option to not hear a track more than once during a playthrough on a playlist. I want more balance in my shuffling.

Thanks for reading this.

Great minds think alike. But something is still not right as MB doesn't add a space to my years. Nor has anyone else mentioned this before. Perhaps try updating to the latest 3.1 patch before you manually edit all those years.

No, I don't think it's musicbee. It's the program I use to download music, it tries to autofill information and sucks at doing so.

I'm really out of ideas as to why it's not working for you, but I'll take one last oddball guess...
Check the data in your year tags. Is it possible there's a space character(s) after or before the four digit year?

I just figured that out after you posted this lol. I can't believe I missed that little detail. MB is automatically putting a space there by default for some odd reason, so I have to backspace every single time I edit the year tag for the first time.

So MB is not even registering YYYY format now, I have no idea what is going on :<

So, I just tried making a rule: "any value", "is", "2010" and it showed all my songs that have a year value of 2010. So that's weird. I mean, I could make auto playlists like this, but some track titles have year values in them, like Smashing Pumpkin's 1979, so that's not going to work for me. I suppose I could make a rule though on top of it to exclude artists who didn't make music during the years I am filtering....

Or I could just make a custom tag for each decade.
