MusicBee Wishlist / Re: An additional "track information" panel

If you add the element to the Right Main Panel, you can't hide its Header Menu.

Tips and Tricks / First letter separator in Album Covers view
« on: March 19, 2018, 03:33:18 AM »
I was split between this section and 'Wishlist', but perhaps before harassing Steven I should post my improvised way of doing this.  :)

I sometimes like to browse through my library in the album covers view, and trying to discern where one letter begins or ends can be a pain. I know about the "Group By" option, but it just wastes tons of screen estate, so I came up with this and it's been pretty useful:

(Shown here in Jazz genre category around 'unpopular' letters, hence the clustering. Obviously it's more useful with lots of albums, eg. All categories)

The way I've got it set up is:

1. Make a folder, and inside of it 26 subfolders 'A' - 'Z'
2. Inside each folder, there is a #.mp3 file + folder.jpg  (picture of a letter on a contrasting background)
3. Add it to the library
4. Since I use <Album Artist> in my Column Browser/Thumbnail browser, to avoid them receiving 26 extra (useless) entries, I tag the 26 files with the same Album Artist, eg. a non-intrusive apostrofe, same Album, but different Sort Album Artist.

(Before a certain update you could have the former fields empty and just set the Sort ones, with very clean visuals, but for now, this hack works fine.)

5. By default, with no genres assigned, it will only show up in "All" Genre category. With a smaller library, that's optimal, but I add "Rock; Jazz; Electronic; etc" to see it in genre-specific views.
6. Have Sort Album Artist in your "Sort By" rule.

I think that's it, it's been a while since I set it up.

I'll provide my folder with the "A-Z", .mp3 and .jpg if anyone wants to go through this hassle.  :P

Naturally, you'll have to manually set the Album/Sort Album Artist tags since they're contained only in the MB database.

Questions / Re: Album Reviews
« on: March 12, 2018, 08:36:03 PM »
What's phred got set up works if you have some free vertical space in the sidebar. Although, I've been wanting a Comment element that I could stack with the Bio & Lyrics.. Wishlist maybe, if there's any interest.

Also, for further reviews, you can set up some links in the sidebar, eg. wikipedia, discogs, allmusic, and get all the info in one click (MB has a browser built in).

MusicBee Wishlist / Re: Quick switching between directsound and asio

+1

I find myself switching between the two fairly often (audiobooks / background music eg. while gaming), this could save some clicks and mousepad mileage.
(and given my ASIO volume is <10/100 and for DirectSound I need to go 60+, hopefully I don't blow my ears out on accident  :P  )

That menu was added to Album & Tracks view and Tracks view if you right on the view button, except artwork view.
Lovely, that did it.  :) I've been right clicking there, but in Artwork view so I missed it.
Thanks!

RE: Playlist info panel

Please add the ability to disable this panel, it takes a lot of space.
+1
Not every user would be a fan of the new playlist artwork feature.
its already done.

I swear I went through all the settings and menus like a dozen times and couldn't find a way to hide this thing.. Did I misinterpret the post, or is it not possible to do that yet?
It's pretty much the only remaining thing bothering me atm. (That aside, I've been using the 3.2 custom image version for a month now, everything works with no issue and looks awesome with subtle background texture).  :)

Bug Reports / [3.2.6499] Folder with playlists and duplicates
« on: October 18, 2017, 03:51:07 PM »
I know this version was just to test few things, but I thought I'd report this anyway..

Somehow I ended up with 17,200 classical tracks, wheareas the regular count is 8600, ie. half of that. At first I thought it had something to do with me testing Custom Layouts, but I think I got it now after some more tinkering.

[All]
|--- Main.xautopf
|--- Classical.xautopf

Basically, I keep my main playlist (containing all music) in a folder [All], and I created another playlist "Classical only", which I put in the same folder. Opening the folder on 3.1 works properly, but 3.2 just shows duplicates for all classical tracks.

Interesting enough, If I go to Manage Duplicates, a tracks' duplicate 'counterpart' is the same file, eg. Q:\track.mp3 is a duplicate of Q:\track.mp3, and a lot of tracks with different artists and names get listed as duplicates.

Couple more:

- the Now Playing -> Highlight playing track options don't work when a background is set.
- not necessarily a bug in the usual sense due to when it manifests, but just to report the behavior: I opened the regular (nontest) executable just to see if the highlight works properly, then I went back to the test one, and what happens is that everything gets smeared as you scroll through the Albums and Tracks view (but not Cover view).

Interesting.. if you right click on a tab, or go to Menu->View, there's now something about Custom Views Layouts.  :D
(Sry for offtopic)

Also, just to confirm, the last version fixed my issue with the Cover view (however, mine had to do with 'Overlay fields inside artwork' setting specifically).

+1; however, I'm assuming it was meant that this wouldn't be removable specifically in the test version. (Sizewise it takes up more space than elements with far greater utility, eg. column browser / whole row of album covers)

Also, got two more bugs to report:

1. If, as you scroll through Album Covers view, you run into a Cover that doesn't have maximum height / adequate aspect ratio, the empty space gets filled with a part of the entity above it.

2. Clicking on any album after that:

EDIT: Both seem to only occur with "Overlay fields inside artwork" setting.

Borders look fine now.

The 'Edit Playlist' text from above has been moved to the left, below the other text in the panel, but I still want to remove the entire panel.  :)

Thanks!

Looks amazing, just tried a few combinations with my usually minimal skins.  :)

One question though - what is this big Edit Playlist panel above Column Browser I keep getting when viewing playlists? It disappears when I run regular executable, but I can't figure out how to get rid of it with the test version.

(Also, notice the colorful glitched borders inside and below the Column Browser.. picks color from the last viewed tab, using the latest uploaded version)

MusicBee Wishlist / Re: Add ability to capture a radio stream
« on: October 09, 2017, 11:11:53 PM »
You can also try Rarma Radio for that purpose, it plays & records multiple radio stations at once and switches between them with no delay.

Don't know if it can cut the stream into individual songs (where supported), but given the radio bitrates tend to hover in between 64-192*, it's better for music discovery than archival anyway.

*(should we have a topic for high bitrate & lossless radio stations?)

Questions / Help me group letters in Thumbnail Browser
« on: September 26, 2017, 06:56:03 PM »

I want the Artists that start with a digit grouped under one '0-9' group instead of potentially 10. I figured out how to make it ignore "The" (and hence group The Beatles under B), but this is a bit more difficult than $Left($Replace(<Album Artist>,"The ",),1)  :)

Help pls
