MusicBee Wishlist / Volume Behaviour Better Suited to Use With External DAC
« on: December 08, 2017, 10:02:51 PM »
Hi,

The use of an external PreAmp/DAC reduces the need for MusicBee and Windows Volume control.  I am aware using WASAPI disables Windows Mixer but it also disallows multiple audio streams.

The main reason for this request is simplification.  In a normal setup which includes a PreAmp/DAC there could be 2-4 volume controls present in the chain.

MusicBee* > Windows* > PreAmp/DAC* > AMP(*)

* Contains volume control

Possible options for implementation, activated by option under "Player" menu item:

1. Disable MusicBee volume control with all devices (including DirectSound), rely on Windows and PreAmp/DAC volume control.
2. Link MusicBee and Windows Mixer Volume at the application level (only being able to change the relative volume to other system sounds)
3. ???

Love to hear your thoughts,

Thanks,

Pete

MusicBee Wishlist / Playlist Window Behaviour in Mini Player
« on: September 16, 2016, 01:43:48 AM »
Currently the collapsible playlist pane in mini player extends only to length required to fit everything from the current queue to a maximum of 20 lines or so.

This is sometimes an issue when dragging and dropping files direct from explorer as the pane size remains, two improvements I would like to suggest.

1. Have the pane user adjustable via a sizing handle at the bottom.
2. Ability to Ctrl+A to select all items and/or a "clear active playlist" button accessible while the pane is visible.

Thanks,
Pete

Was on 3.0.5943, am now on 3.0.6067.  initial testing seems good - will report back any if it continues.

Appreciate all your do Steven, thank you.

In minimised mode, when you select either play/pause, mute or any of the other buttons and then move the mouse away MuiscBee "sticks" to the cursor and you end up re-position  the bar, usually to the middle of the screen - having to drag it back.

I think the natural action when clicking is not not be totally steady while the button is in the pressed mode.  Could we possibly remove the buttons from being handles to move the window?

If it's just me I can deal with it, but it happens almost all the time - surely someone else has noticed this behaviour too?

Have not tried the other recommendations but PowerAmp has been fantastic for me, well worth a look: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer&hl=en

Spot on, you're amazing. Thank you!

Hi all,

View options have changed in a recent update.. Before we could easily pick "track details" "list" ect which would omit the album art from the song picker in the main window.  This made it far easier to view a list of songs associated with multiple artists on the same album.

How do we change the item listing from "detail with album art" back to "list only" with the new behaviour?

Thanks for reading.

Pete

I would like to see profile details when selecting a transcoding profile, such as if the profile is variable or constant bitrate and the expected bitrate (MP3 V0 ~190Kbit etc) rather than just "Portable Music" or "Archive" as it doesn't correctly communicate which encoder settings will be used.

To clarify, I'm not after the ability to change them, rather just to view details of the encoder profile which will be applied to the file(s).

MusicBee Wishlist / 'convert only if lossless' added to File Converter
« on: February 06, 2016, 01:26:21 AM »
Hi,

I would like to see the option to *copy* an already lossy file to the destination directory when running the "File Converter", rather then to transcode again as is the case now.

The situation is, I have a library which is about 80% lossless, when i convert to MP3 to use on a portable device i do not want the files already in a lossy format (usually MP3) to go through the conversion process again - transcoding them twice from a lossy source, and probably to the same bitrate again.

This functionality is already available in the "devices" conversion tab.  There are many reasons to convert to a folder first before copying it over to a device, rather than straight up using the "devices" conversion menu to start with which i wont go into here.

Thanks for the suggestion.  I believe the folder map requires the "removable media" flag to be picked up by MusicBee and available to sync.  Folders linked to drive letters with the SUBST command come up only as local drive letters / network path and as such not available to be specified as a sync location.

Hi all,

First off thanks for reading, my issue is i would like to transcode my library which is about 80% FLAC to MP3.. Now i know there's a converter tool but it doesnt look like it gives you the same options (specifically convert only if lossless) as what are found in the Device Sync menu.

So.. how do i transcode all of my library in bulk to MP3, but have it apply to only lossless files, and leave the already lossy files intact but copy them over and rename them - just the same as Device Sync but to a folder..?

PS: I'd be open to tricking the PC into mounting a folder as a "removable device" and hence being able to preform the device sync to that directory.

Thanks very much,

Peter

it isnt, but lots of devices are compatible with the folder.jpg artwork so there's always that

MusicBee Wishlist / FLAC to WAV on-the-fly converstion option
« on: June 20, 2011, 03:01:20 PM »
on-the-fly conversion under Devices ive found to be really versatile and very handy both for my phone and also USB drive for use in my car

some people might scoff at the suggestion but would it be possible to add the WAV file type to the possible conversion formats.. reason being in my case is i have a lot of FLAC, but of course it isnt compatible with a lot of stand alone devices.

I do notice WavPack is there, but i take it this has no compatibility to the beloved WAV format?

Thanks for everything Steven!

MusicBee Wishlist / Re: android or iOS remote app
« on: April 27, 2011, 05:23:12 AM »
Hello all,

i know this topic is old but there doesnt seem to be much movement on this front, and id like to renew the push

- are there any apps that can accept commands and send key-strokes to MB?
YES! For Android and Windows Phones there is a paid app ($4.95) called GRemote (http://gbmsoftware.com), ive used this extensively with Winamp and VLC and it is very, very good.  The instal does come prepacked with configurations (keymaps) for many of the main players out in the wild including WMP and XBMC and all of that, sadly MusicBee is absent but it is very easy to (like suggested) change the config to use Global Hotkey keypresses which MusicBee is farmiular with.

- are there any apps that work with winamp? Its possible to make MB advertise itself as winamp and accept winamp commands (the only way at the moment is to set the Instant Messenger type to 'Fake Winamp' but i can make a better preference setting if this is a viable approach)
No need, with the above software you can start off with the template for Winamp or Foobar, re-jig the congif and rename it as MusicBee

- musicbee now has an API, so someone could develop a MB plugin
for basic functions like play/pause, stop, next, previous are just monkey banana kind of stuff, very easy.. Something which i would like to see implemented is GRemote has the ability to view and use the active playlist, out of the box this works with Winamp and Aimp2, it may be something you need to talk to the developers of GRemote, this link to their page can explain it better then i can:

Thanks for the reply, ill check out the filters and see if they do what i want.. although setting up multiple libraries how MusicBee manages them at the moment may suit me best

I've only been using MusicBee for about 2 weeks - the community and Stevens commitment to the project is amazing, thank you!
