I know this is an old thread, but has this behaviour changed? I just tried alt+double-clicking a track, and it performed the Play Now action (clear queue and play album from the clicked track), rather than Queue Next on just the clicked track.

I have double click set to Play Now, but would love to be able to use a modifier (ctrl/shift/alt) to double click and Queue Next instead.

Not at home at the mo, so I'll have to try and remember my rules correctly, but I think it was simply this:

Match: Play Count greater than 0
Restrictions: Limit to 10 albums, selected by most often played, group by album

I understand why it doesn't work, as you described. I suppose maybe this is a new feature request in some ways: an 'expand selection to all tracks matching this/these album(s)' option. This would function as your programmatic explanation, except that instead of adding just the one track to the list (with the highest play count), it would add all tracks with the same album title.

P.S. Some care would be needed to identify the correct album, obviously album name alone isn't good enough as you run the risk of selecting albums with the same from another artist (e.g. in the case of albums titled 'Greatest Hits'). You could combine it with album artist, but then you'd also need an exception for compilations without an album artist.

If I understand this option correctly, it should (in theory) do what I want, but it doesn't appear to:

I want to select my top 10 most played albums, that is the entire album for each of the top 10 most played tracks, after grouping by album.

For example, I've played 'Hometown Glory' by Adele loads more than the rest of the album, so it features in my top played, but the rest of the album doesn't. However, I want this auto-playlist to return the whole album.

Another example, I've played Joni Mitchell's album 'For The Roses' in its entirety lots too, so all of those tracks feature in my top played. They might be my top 12 played tracks (since there are 12 on the album), so grouping by album prevents just one album being returned.

And then I want to sort them in the Artwork view by most played first!

I think it doesn't work because although the 'group by album' option does successfully return, e.g. tracks with 0 plays from an album that features a top played track, the limit function then works after this, and since I choose by most played, all the 0-played tracks get pushed to the bottom.

p-mob, yes, your points are valid for Renderer and Server functionality, nice maybe but not must-haves. However, I think there's a stronger, valid case for Control Point functionality - MusicBee has great library control, search, filter and playlist features, it would be awesome to be able to use this to play audio on remote wireless streamers.

Steven, simple streaming would be great. Obviously full UPnP support would be the ideal to aim for (in my case to be able to see song titles on the client display and use the IR remote to pause, change volume). Can you direct me to the hydrogenaudio thread?

This is my point - not a UPnP *server*, but a *client* (specifically a Control Point and possibly Renderer in DLNA-speak).

Just had to look it (subsonic) up, but I don't think so - subsonic sounds like a server of some sort? DLNA/UPnP Renderer duplicates it in some ways maybe, but with Control Point functionality you would be able to use MusicBee to push audio (from wherever, local library, DLNA/UPnP server) to another Renderer, e.g. Linn DS, Naim players, and also Squeezeboxes (uses a proprietary system but there are ways to make them act as UPnP Renderers) and maybe Sonos (dunno about that, no first hand experience there).

Squeezeboxes (with the 'Whitebear' bridge to make them appear as DLNA players) is my setup - the Squeezebox Server web UI is slow, MusicBee is much better but there's no current way for them to talk to each other.

Sorry to drag up an old thread, but I think UPnP in MusicBee would be more useful as a client ('control point' and/or 'renderer') rather than a server. Like the 'Play To' feature in Windows Media Player or AirPlay in iTunes, it would be great to be able to easily direct the output from MusicBee to my DLNA/UPnP players at the click of a button.

Okay, excellent, thanks, will look forward to it!

MusicBee Wishlist / Functions for use with virtual tags

Are there any functions such as logic tests, string manipulation, etc. that can be used with the virtual tags?

I usually store the date in my files as 'YYYY MM DD', what I want is to create a virtual tag that is only the first four characters of this tag, i.e. just the year.

Ah, okay, good to know re iTunesCompilation = COMPILATION for FLACs. I will try it again tonight when I get home from work, but I think that I have done what you suggest, but it still doesn't work.
I defined the tag and enabled 'detect iTunes compilations', and now in the artwork view pane, the album artist does indeed show Various Artists, but I still have the cover image repeated for each song - i.e. it has set the album artist to VA (where previously there was none so it took the track artist I guess), but it is not grouping the tracks together. I have one cover image for each 'normal' album, but one per track for all VA albums.

Uh.. I got an email this morning saying a reply had been left by Steven, but the last message I see is my own...   ???

Thanks for the reply, but it doesn't seem to work. Firstly, they don't have a tag called iTunes Compilation, they're FLACs and they just have a tag called Compilation (=1). However, even if I set the iTunes Compilation flag, it still doesn't seem to work - the album appears under Various Artists, sorted under V, but in the main view panel, which is sorted by album artist, I have a cover for every song in the album.

I'm new to MusicBee, can this be achieved using the Compilation (=1) tag? I currently leave the Album Artist tag blank for compilations, as that works best with Squeezebox and other music players I use. (Hence a VA compilation is something with Compilation=1 and no Album Artist)
