Questions / MB windows go missing with 3 monitors
« on: December 27, 2024, 11:55:46 PM »
This has only gotten worse lately.

Predictably (though not predictably "where"), pop-up windows will never show up, and then you can't do anything in MB because it's waiting on something to happen in that pop-up.  It used to be, if I moved something from the inbox to the music library, the (unnecessarily elongated) pop-up window is mostly hiding, mostly off-screen of ONE of the monitors (like I said, where this happens is random, but it happens consistently).  It happens most often when MB is in the leftmost window: slivers of pop-ups used to appear on the far right edge of the 3rd monitor.  Now they don't even show up as splinters.

This is a problem, because you can't just Alt-Tab to the missing window.  Ergo, if I am trying to add files from the music library, or if I need to Edit a file, the pop-up just does not show up.  Prior behaviour was that a small part of the window was "somewhere" and it would be on me to go drag it back to the monitor where MB is running.

Issues:
-- You can't see the pop-up window
-- You can't Alt-Tab to the PU window
-- You can't switch to it in Task Manager

Restarting MB doesn't work.
Rebooting doesn't fix it.

My workaround:

Stop MB
Reboot
start MB
MOVE the MB window to the PRIMARY MONITOR (#2 in my case)
Stop MB
Restart MB and the pop-ups will stay fairly close to the MB window.
Suffer with MB not being able to play nicely on 2nd or 3rd monitors.

Anyone else see this behaviour?

Alright, consider this answered.

thanks for the links

...isn't a discernable pattern?

"Giants" doesn't match your example, so...no, I hadn't discerned that.

Questions / Re: Where is the list of genre stored?
« on: August 01, 2023, 06:51:33 PM »
OK, if the custom ones are only stored in the metadata of the track, then that explains why I can't find a list of them, which also explains why I can't create a list of them.

Sounds like AFR and some bulk-editing will do what I want, but text editing will not.

Thanks.

I just noticed something: the Windows Explorer folder thinks the track number is different than what the filename is OR what the Track # is in the ID3.  And it looks like Windows is appending a number that matches what it thinks the track # is to the back of whatever number MB is adding, and if there isn't one, Windows just assigns a "1" and MB doesn't add that to its random number.

Hmm...

Also, the idea of keeping track of playlists doesn't make sense either, because the number isn't the same.  I have hundreds of playlists in MB, so in the above example, according to one suggestion, those numbers should all begin "401," and they don't, they're sequential.

So i tried again, just to be sure, with a much larger playlist.  Again: the tracks are arbitrarily numbered sequentially, and it doesn't make a difference if it's an MP3 or a FLAC, the numbering schema has no discernible pattern.

That doesn't make any sense.  This specific playlist only has 90 tracks in it.

When those same files are copied in organized folders, the numbers don't exist.  When a playlist is copied (not synchronized, but maybe it's the same mechanism), it puts all the files in a new directory, with all those numbers there.

Again: sometimes it's a single number, sometimes there's a hyphen between two, sometimes it's 2 numbers.  That numbering does not exist in the organized folder option.

And there is a way around that, but I want to know if MB will just not make the mistake to begin with so the way around it is unnecessary.

This isn't all the genres, though, and some of these don't pull-down.

When I make a custom genre, where is that data stored other than in the metadata for the track?  There has to be a place where it's stored, because it'll pop up as an option the next time I edit a track.

Thanks for the lead, but it's not quite what I was looking for.

Sweet!  Thanks!

No, those numbers aren't there.  Also, look at the numbers in my example, they are way too close to each other.  Also, when I do the "organized folder" route, there are no numbers.

Here's an example specifically chosen from the above screenshot.

So if I decide to make an impromptu copy of a playlist, and use the feature shown in the below screen-cap, the folder I copy to ends up with all these numbers in front of the tracks.  Some are hyphenated, some are not.

The reason this is a problem is that if I copy to a USB drive, then use that drive as the source for a playlist in my Android-powered car stereo, it sorts completely differently.  Also, it's difficult to chop of a specific number of leading characters, because sometimes it's 3 digits, sometimes it's 3 plus a hyphen, plus 2 or 3 more.

Obviously, sending to an Organized Folder puts the tracks in their subdirectories with no leading numbers, but this copy-to-common-directory does not.

Any ideas on why this is happening (or how to make it stop)?

The issue I see is that if I have a playlist and I sort it by time, then every playlist I open is sorted by time.

I'd like different playlists to have different sort criteria.  One shuffled, one by time, one by artist, you get the idea.  I don't like making a change and then having to un-do it when I want to listen to an album, let's say.

What's the best way to do that?

Questions / Where is the list of genre stored?

Would like to know if there's an easier way to delete irrelevant genres and input my own custom genres.

Hopefully, it's a text file somewhere.  If not, I'll do it manually, but I'm hoping not.

@zlurg, i've updated "Replace full date with year in <Tag 1>" ASR preset

Perfect.  Works great, thanks for being the bigger man.

isn't it a bit mean, @zlurg?

Yes, I deserved that, guilty as charged.  I humbly apologize.  After writing that, I tried to screenshot what I was seeing and found that your instructions work fine if the options are present.  They are not present until you actually click the button.  I suggest a minor addition to the documentation.

So I apologize.
