Questions / Organize podcasts by subscription name?
« on: December 18, 2018, 06:59:34 AM »
Is there a way to make a podcast naming template (in Preferences->Library->Podcasts) that uses the name of the podcast subscription as it's displayed in the Podcasts tab? There is <Album>, but I've found that that gives pretty inconsistent results since a lot of my podcasts don't all have a single Album name for all episodes, so things get scattered across a bunch of different folders.

Questions / Re: Upgrading MP3 to FLAC in batches

It's hacky and ugly and a bit error-prone, but the best workflow I've figured out for this task is to prepare your FLACs somewhere else, then convert the MP3s in MusicBee's library to FLAC with the built-in format conversion tool, then replace those bad lossy FLACs with the ones you prepared earlier from Windows Explorer. This seems to accomplish what I want with the least amount of time and repetitive stress injury. Make backups of everything first.

+1

I ran into this issue when looking into upgrading existing MP3s in the database to FLAC. Doing it one file at a time takes too long even for one album, let alone dozens or more. It seems like the functionality is there except for being able to do more than one file at once, which seems like it shouldn't be that hard as long as the old and new files are tagged well enough to have matching artist/album/title information.

Mostly I'm wanting to preserve ratings, play counts, and the "date added" and "last played" fields, because I use all of those for smart playlists.

Questions / Upgrading MP3 to FLAC in batches
« on: February 28, 2018, 07:14:50 AM »
Now that I have a NAS and a couple extra hundred megabytes per album seems fairly trivial, I'm looking to slowly rerip my CD collection to FLAC instead of MP3 as I have it now. But what I'd like to know is whether or not there's a convenient way to upgrade the files in MusicBee while keeping metadata intact, on an album-by-album basis? I found the option to replace any single song with the new FLAC file (right click -> Send To -> Folder (Replace) -> Use the selected file to replace another file), but doing that for all of the tracks of even one album one-by-one was pretty tedious and I really don't want to do another several dozen albums like that. Is there a way to replace all of the tracks of an album with an upgraded file in one go?

MusicBee Wishlist / Mass resize artworkless songs

This is maybe a bit too niche of a request, but now that MusicBee resizes files that have had artwork deleted from them (which I really appreciate), I think it would be nice if there were some way to automatically have it go through the library and resize files which have already had artwork removed but still have the space allocated. I've got a number of files like that from when I switched to MusicBee and transitioned from using embedded artwork to having artwork in an external file linked to songs.

MusicBee Wishlist / Original Year tag
« on: May 08, 2012, 05:20:33 AM »
I think an "original year" or "composition year" type of tag for songs would be really cool to have. I like to keep track of the original year each song was released in compilation albums and such for organization purposes. I can do that using custom tags now, but I can't do very much with them unless I go through the painstaking process of tagging every single song regardless of whether its original year tag would be different than its existing year tag.

The idea I have is that there would be a tag you could enter the original year in, with MusicBee assuming that it's the same as the Year tag if it's blank. This way one could create things like 1960s or 1980s playlists and include any songs that are in compilations from later on (for instance, I have a Doors album released in 1994, but containing songs mostly from the 60s; having these in a 90s playlist doesn't make much sense). Just tagging the original year in the Year tag is what I did in iTunes, but it wasn't great then either, and in MusicBee it causes the album to be split up into entries for each year when using Album View, sorting by Sort Artist/Year/Album like I prefer to.

I figure this would also be useful for noting the composition year in classical music.

I think it's fine the way it is. Although I would be okay with changing it to display "VBR V0" or "VBR V2" or whatever as well.
