MusicBee Wishlist / Re: Tag Cloud Browser
« on: June 20, 2011, 06:19:16 AM »

I didn't like the sound of this at first, but thinking about genres and moods, it's actually quite a nice idea.
Here's a website that uses a tag-cloud interface to create playlists:
http://www.stereomood.com

I think songbird has a tag cloud plugin, but none of the other popular music library software seems to have this feature.

Out of interest, what variable would make the 'rock' tag larger than 'trippy'? For instance, would it depend on the amount of those tracks in the library? Perhaps the sum of the play count? Maybe the sum of the ratings? What would be most useful?

Portable Devices / Re: Syncing Multiple Playlists
« on: June 20, 2011, 05:31:27 AM »
So, your sync playlist has:

track1
track2
track3
track4
track5

These are the tracks on your phone.

You have another playlist in MusicBee:
track5
track4
track3
track6
track7
track8

And you want to only play tracks 5, 4 & 3, without copying 6, 7 & 8 to your phone?

Assuming your phone reads playlists, instead of syncing the 2nd playlist, isn't the solution just to copy it to your phone?
The phone will presumably play the tracks that exist and skip over those that don't exist?

Ah yes, I see now - should have read the thread more closely.

+1 for that then: File organiser would be more flexible and safe with a copy option.

MusicBee Wishlist / Re: AutoDJ | Filter Sets
« on: June 19, 2011, 09:40:35 PM »

I think the original request was for a way to save the all autoDJ settings, and 'load' them later.
The autoDJ is already totally kickass, but being able to save some presets would be phenomenal.

MusicBee Wishlist / Bookmarking within tracks
« on: June 19, 2011, 09:32:16 PM »
In my 'A-B Repeat' thread (http://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=3687.0)
'bookmarking' was mentioned so I thought I'd create a new thread for this feature request.

During playback, it would be nice to click a button or use a keyboard shortcut to add a 'bookmark' to the track.
Optionally you could be asked to name the bookmark and add a note/description.

Later, you'd go to a 'bookmark list view' to see all your bookmarks.
Clicking one would take you to that particular spot within the track (the point at which the bookmark was created).

This would be useful for finding particular parts of an audio file in podcasts, audiobooks and language courses.

Any thoughts?

> But that doesn't "reorganize" the file, it doesn't create the folder structure...

You want the right-click menu option to open up the 'file organiser' dialogue?
I'd be against that suggestion, since these two options currently provide two different functions.

What I would support is for the file organiser to have a choice between copy and move.
Currently it only supports moving.

MusicBee Wishlist / select multiple albums in 'album & tracks' view
« on: June 19, 2011, 09:10:58 PM »
In 'album & tracks' view, we can ctrl-click on individual tracks to select and highlight them.
We can do this across many albums.

If we click on the artwork, it selects the whole album.
But we can't ctrl-click on artwork to quickly select several albums.

Ideally I'd like to be able to ctrl-click a couple of full albums using the artwork,
and then go on to ctrl-click some individual tracks to add them to the selection.

What d'ya think?

Questions / Re: Automatically Download Album Art?

Welcome to the forum.

Glad you found that feature.
I was going to post it last night, but had second thoughts because it wasn't 'automatic'.

> Could it be a workaround if you set the start and end time of that track in the tag editor?

Nice idea.

However, I was hoping for something a little faster to set.
For example, a 20 minute language podcast might contain 50+ new phrases and sentences.
It would be nice to be able to easily repeat harder sentences a few times as you work your way through the track.
Setting an A-B repeat would allow you to concentrate on the content for a few minutes without having to break
concentration to manually move the timeline slider for each repetition.

And could we stop talking about bookmarking now. To clarify, this thread is about A-B repeat.  ;D
I may start another thread about bookmarking, since it's been mentioned; that would certainly be another killer feature.

Ah... that's not what I thought bookmarking meant.
To me, in a music player context, bookmarking would mean linking within in a track, so you can jump to a place in the file easily.
Eg. a chapter of an audio book, or a certain part of an interview in a podcast.
My Cowon J3 allows 256 such bookmarks.
You can imagine that it is very useful for language learning, or for research when you have audio sources.

lol.

Out of interest, why is the 'bookmarks' column ticked?
There isn't a bookmarking feature in MB, is there?

MusicBee Wishlist / A-B Repeat
« on: June 12, 2011, 08:13:05 PM »
I'm learning a new language using lots of audio podcasts and tracks ripped from CD courses.
It would be useful to have an A-B repeat, to loop a section of a track.

The way I envisage it working is to have one button labelled 'A-B'
The first click designates the start point of the loop.
The second click designates the end point of the loop. The track would then jump to point 'A' and start looping.
The third click turns looping off again.

A button would be nice, but a keyboard shortcut would also work just as well.

Apart from language learning, this feature might also appeal to musicians who are trying to learn a song a section at a time.

What do you think?

EDIT: I noticed this was requested last year, but it did not generate discussion:

Why wouldn't you just use library filters or a saved advanced search?
Wouldn't making a 'highlight' rule would be just as laborious?

Also, if two or more of these rules applied to a single row, how would the colour of the row be determined?

MusicBee Wishlist / Re: now playing list updating

> I wish there was a way to sync the "now playing" list with the playlist that it is playing

If you need to edit a playlist whilst it's playing, why don't you rearrange the 'now playing' list instead?
Then you can just save the result as a new playlist.

> It would also be awesome with an option to right click the inbox and have it updated... so it would
> rescan the inbox folder from scratch. F5 does nothing for me there

The inbox isn't scanned as such - it is the 'watched' folders that are scanned, and any new files are then added to the inbox.
So to update the inbox, you should be using: File -> Rescan/Add files

Isn't that what library filters are for?

I separate my wife's music from mine using a library filter. We didn't use the album rating for anything, so I just gave all my albums 1-star, all her albums no stars (believe me, that's all they're worth!), and then created two library filters (which are listed in the panel). To exclude all her music, I just select my library before clicking the shuffle button.
