Is there no longer a way to control the number of columns in the column browser?  I wanted to show genre and genre category, and I can get them to show with a custom sort that I use, but there is an extra column that I don't need.  When I try to use "set displayed fields", it only shows the single field I clicked on, and I can't remove it.  (I'm using vertical side-by-side at the moment.)

On second thought, this belongs in bugs.  Would someone move it? Please and thank you.

Do you mean the settings in
Preferences> Layout (1)> main panel
are not making any changes for you?

Ah.  I didn't know it had been moved that deep.  However, I still contend that "set displayed fields" should cover all columns and allow you to add/remove them. It only makes sense.

thats a very good idea but it belongs in the wishlist. The current behavior for setting the number of columns has been like that since v2.3 i think

Goes to show you how   often I use the column browser.  :)  But it's definitely an easy way to track down genres that haven't been assigned a category.

If nobody moves this to the wish list before I get back to a real computer, I'll just make a new post.

The preference setting was always there. What actually happened was v.2.4 removed column number setting and show track count setting from Configure Layout button. Then show count setting was recently restored as context menu upon my request. Probably column number setting could be restored too as context menu, which would be easier than creating column browser-only "set displayed fields" pane.

The "set displayed fields" pane already exists for column browser.

As redwing pointed out, this was an option under Configure Layout to at least 2.4.5282 and was removed in the final 2.4 release.

Maybe re-instating these options would be the easiest solution as this is where most users already expect them to be.
