In my case DirectSound was broken after I installed a non-Microsoft-driver for my soundcard. In Settings -> Player you might have another option than DirectSound that might work. In my case that helped.
I'm sorry for several language mistakes. Please feel free to ask if you don't understand, what I am trying to say. I am always willing to improve my English skills :)

I have got the same problem BASS_ERROR_HANDLE for Music Bee.
I think that would be cause by Windows installation on your PC.
Some Windows images has not integrated Windows Media update. (Most probably Windows is not from original ).

In my case I am using Windows 7 N

Solve:
Download Media Feature Pack from Microsoft website or others convenient sources.

This link can make you happy or you can find your supported operating system Media Feature Pack.

Install to your pc and restart. Hope problem will be solved.
