I believe that I am not the only one who keeps tracks instead of whole albums in personal archive. As it is a very rare case when I like all tracks from the album what I do is I listen and extract what I like. And here is the thing - it would be awesome if I can make a list of songs (database) which I have listened and marked as not good, so this way I would not need to spend time listening them again and again (this is true when it comes to popular hits). The red exclamation mark next to song's title would be a great visualization.

Isn't this what the one-star rating is for? Unless I've misunderstood your goal.

One-star rating is for files you have in your collection. But why should I have 1000 flac files, when I only listen to 20 of them.
The point is that my suggested database would keep track of all listened and disliked songs, while there would be no need to keep those files on PC.

in the settings tab of the tag editor, ban the track or show the "Love" field (main panel and/or player controls), and hold the Shift key down when clicking to ban. Using this functionality does not require a last.fm account

It does not work for me. I have tried giving a song ban (while holding shift), I have tried giving 0,5 starts (while holding shift), but when I have opened it from other directory it played and nothing has happened. I was using latest 1.4 and 2.0 versions.

Mark all those song with 0 stars or something else and then create a filter with those criteria to filter them out. That way you will never see them again unless you desire. Problem solve  ;)

You have not read what I said before. There is no point in keeping tracks you do not like in your collection. And you if do not keep them in your collection, rating does not work!
Also I am not sure if you have same two tracks from different albums and you give 0 stars to one track that another track would automatically get 0 stars rating. I doubt that it will work.

That "Love" field is a mystery for me. Are you talking about http://s13.postimage.org/5jkoqnd3p/love.png this one? If so, it is not working. I have tried numerous times.

In fact I have read everything you said, maybe it was not clear to me or everybody else that read your post. You are saying that you don't wont to keep certain tracks in your collection and also keep a database of those tracks. What you mean is that you want these tracks to be DELETED from your computer and only included as entries in a database so you know that you should not ever put those song in your collection again, is that it?

The love field works in association with last.fm. If don't have a last.fm account its useless and won't work

thats not quite correct - MB can support the field when you have no account. It just updates the MB cache only

Okay, now I'm puzzled... Why won't it work if you have no internet connection then if all it does is update the cache  ???

In that case +1

This suggestion actually has HUGE potential... Imagine having the ability to compare new songs against criteria you set (e.g artist + album + title) with a database of songs you have no interest! That is quite something and I doubt any other player has such a feature.

That way you can keep your library neat and organized more easily without having to listen to everything new you add to the library. You will know at once that you stumbled upon tracks that you might heard in the past and did not like, no need to go over them again and again...

p/s
The only thing that is kind of a disadvantage is that your music taste does not stay the same forever. Tracks that you disliked in the past may have a new meaning to you now... hmm. I would like to hear other people's opinions as well!  :)
