My artwork options are set to:
embed picture in the music file
copy to the same folder and name: Cover.jpg

After having spent the last month adding new artwork to all my albums I noticed something strange that seems to be connected to the issue I posted about here:
https://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=38770.msg209652#msg209652

I've only sampled a few albums so far, but from what I can tell, this new issue only applies to multi-disc albums. Every disc gets its own sub folder (CD1, CD2, CD3 etc.). When adding artwork using the settings above, all files gets embedded artwork but the folder CD1 does NOT get a Cover.jpg while CD2 and CD3 does.

So I add a multi-disc album to my library, I select all the files, right-click and 'Edit'. I drag-and-drop an image from my desktop to the little artwork section in the 'Tags' tab of the 'Edit' window. I don't get the dialogue box with check boxes where I can choose to embed and 'link the picture to this music track'. I press 'Save' and every file gets embedded artwork and CD2 and CD3 gets a Cover.jpg while CD1 does not.

I now select the same files again and choose to edit them. This time I select the 'Artwork' tab instead, remove the cover I just added and repeat the drag-and-drop. Now I do get the dialogue box where the check boxes to embed and link to an external copy are pre-checked in accordance with my settings. I press 'Save' and now everything works as expected. All the files gets embedded artwork and every "CD" sub folder has a copy of Cover.jpg.

NOTE: This doesn't seem to be related to which tab is being used in the 'Edit' window and more about "Have the files been tagged with artwork previously?". I just tried it again using different tabs and the results were the same as stated above.

Since this hasn't occurred with every multi-disc album, from what I can tell, I'm making the assumption that this only happens with images from one particular source and I also assume that this is connected to the problem I've posted about previously in the above mentioned thread. Here's an example of one such image:

Question: How do I solve this? I could use Powershell to recursively go through every folder and print a list of "CD1" folder that doesn't have a "Cover.jpg", but all that would give me is a substantial list of manual labor tasks.

Is there a way to select all the multi-disc albums and have them extract their embedded artwork to "Cover.jpg" in their current folder? This would of course mean overwriting the "Cover.jpg" in CD2 and CD3 folders but I don't see an issue with that as the images are identical. Any ideas?

can you describe step-by-step how you are adding artwork to the multi-cd tracks, including any actions such as moving the tracks into the cd folders
and do you have auto-organise enabled?

No auto-organize enabled.

Album is added to Musicbrainz Picard which strips all the existing tags including any artwork.

New tags are written, files are renamed and moved to my Musicbee monitored folder automatically. The file naming script places the files in CD sub folders if there's more than one disc.

Musicbee analyzes the volume/tracks and writes ReplayGain automatically.

I write some additional tags and move other tags around with MP3tag.

I download a front cover, places it on my desktop. Then I select the album in Musicbee, right-click and "Edit" and then I drag and drop the cover into the artwork window (tried it with both the main one and the 'Artwork' tab). No dialogue box pops up here, it just adds the artwork. I then write some other tags using Musicbee and then I save the changes.

As previously stated, if I then edit the same files again and removes the artwork I just added and repeats the drag and drop process above, I get a dialogue box where "embed" and "save a copy to Cover.jpg" is checked and when I save the changes this time, Cover.jpg is present in all the sub folders.

The process above is identical to single- and multi-disc releases.

Folder structure for single-disc releases:

/Album/Cover.jpg

Multi-disc releases:

/Album/CD1/
/Album/CD2/Cover.jpg
/Album/CD3/Cover.jpg

I've never experienced this before and as it hasn't happened to every multi-disc release even though my process is the same, there has to be something else at work here. That's why I was thinking it has something to do with the images, just as with my previous issue where Musicbee compressed some of my artwork but not every single one.

Sorry for the confusion. It's Picard that writes the new tags, renames the files and moves them.

No auto-organizing by Musicbee whatsoever.

Thanks. I tried using the picture you provided and followed your steps - i assume when you edit the album to add the album cover you are editing all tracks from all the cds. However I couldnt reproduce any issues, nor can i think of any reason as to how it would happen.
So unfortunately it will remain unsolved

Thanks for taking a look at it. It's a weird one to say the least.

I found out that Mp3tag is able to extract covers via an action so I managed to solve the ones that was incorrect and I'll just continue using that to add covers and then extract them while I'm doing the other tags.
