As to reply to Boom Boom, I don't use mp3tag but I have downloaded it and have all my music 'loaded'  I have found the Action setting but am not sure what to do next. Do I copy and paste your commands somewhere? Could you please confirm click by click how to proceed? See next screenshot.

Like I said previously, you'll need to save my script into the ../mp3tag/data/actions folder as an MTA file.
Copy and paste it into Notepad and then save with the correct file extension. It will then be viewable in the Action group pop-up.

Thanks, IBB, I have copied and pasted the script into notepad ++ and saved it as a .mta file. I have copied this file to Program Files-Mp3tag-data-Actions and called it script Mbee.mta See screenshot but it does not appear in the actions pop up in mp3tag. I still only have Case Conversion, CD-R, and Standard. What might I be doing wrong?  https://i.imgur.com/pDAqNbn.png

Thanks, Frankz for the  "create a sub-folder for each playlist and its tracks," tip, this will save me hours using the edit and 3 digits method.
It just occurred to me that this might not do what you need it to do. It will prepend the playlist order number to the *file name* not the title. So if you need the titles to be in a certain order, it will not do this. If files are read in order by file name then this will work fine.

Yes, it's the title of tracks but more importantly, it's the artist or group that I keep together alphabetically. ie all Adele together or all The Rolling stones together. The 3 numbers seem to be the only way I found some years ago to maintain this order when copying to USB.
As for the IBB script, I cannot find any way to produce a .mta file as notepad and notpad++ do not list this extension. Nor does Libreoffice. If you paste content into Notepad it becomes a text document automatically with no way to change it to a .mta file.  there is software to convert from.MTA but not TO .MTA.  It seems to be a file extension created by Samsung AllShare, a program used for sharing multimedia files between PCs, so I am completely stuck trying to use IBB's script.

My question to you now is, if I uninstall Musicbee and start from scratch will I end up with the same problem as these images are embedded in all my mp3 files?
It took me 1/2 an hour just to edit and delete manually some 9 tracks as it's scores or hundreds of clicks each time and if you click too fast Musicbee freezes.

Again I appreciate your thoughts and input Frankz

BTW I didn't quite understand what needed to be done with the reply from Psychadept,
'As long as the artwork is the same for every file in the album, you should at least be able to do it a whole album at a time. The Album Artwork Manager is also helpful for this because it will show you if all the tracks in an album are the same or not, which will help you figure out which ones you can do as a group.

Or you can find the artwork for that specific album, copy it, and paste it to the whole album. That should clear out the extra ones.

Could you explain exactly using the Album Artwork Manager how to do this and where it is in Musicbee settings etc?  This might be a possible less time-consuming solution.

i don't know anything about .mta scripts, but from i've read on this topic, i suggest that they are just text files with .mta extension instead of .txt. just select 'all files' instead of 'text files' and type full filename of the script including .mta extension, e.g 'myscript.mta', in notepad 'save as...' dialog.

Thanks, I'm now in Album Artwork Manager so in the screenshot, you can see I have 95 images for The Byrds on two tacks and 285 for two tracks from Coldplay, etc., so is there a way to remove all the duplicates without having to individually click every single one in the right panel to remove?

Thanks, Baroda, I am doing as you say and this .mta file is pasted into the mp3tag-data-actions folder and is supposed to appear in the actions pop up in mp3tag but does not show, as per the reply from IBB. So I am at a dead end unless IBB knows what the problem might be.

Hmmm Weird. Save this over the file you originally created and let's see happens. If that fails you can still create the script, you'll just need to do it step-by-step.

Just to confirm,  I have copied the New script to Notepad++, gone to save as, Called it 'New Script' and added the .mta extension, and changed the file type to All Files.
I have pasted this into Mp3tag-data-actions see screenshot 1 and all I still get are the 3 default actions see screenshot 2. I take it there should be a fourth option.

When you say I can still create the script but do it step by step, do you mean manually type it out with all the characters and spaces exactly as you have sent it, if so where exactly do I do this?

Many thanks

I tested to be sure: Copy the artwork you want to keep, then select all files you want to apply it to and open the tag editor. Right click on the artwork box in Tags (1) and paste it. Do not go to the artwork tab, and do not right click on the files and use "Paste Artwork". Just paste it onto the main artwork box in the tag editor and it will replace all other artwork files.

Fantastic, this works well and will save a large % of my sanity.
Thanks for sticking with me on this.
I wish I knew exactly why these duplicates appeared in the first place. I think I used to when searching for album art within Musicbee, tick the 'link the picture to this music track' as well as having, by default, the 'embed the picture in the music file' ticked. I also did not have the correct settings in Tags 1. Could this have confused Musicbee every time I edited or copied a track?

My last question to you is what album art search engine do you use and have you integrated it into Musicbee?
I have tried an old post from Enduring Gorilla March 2019 using Album Art Downloader where he populates its .exe into tools and creates a toolbar button but I just get an error message. I would love this, any ideas? See the link to the original post and my screenshot of the error.
Again, thank you.

BTW just found that your solution only works for two or more tracks so is really helpful but will not solve the ones that are on their own.

Thanks

So are you using version 0.45.0 of Album Art Downloader?
That's probably a very old one. Mine is 1.0.5.0.
