Is it possible to store ratings separately from files?

I keep all my music on a read only NAS Share, when I rate a song (ie 4 stars) I get an error that the original file could not be saved.

Just wondering if there's an option to store that information elsewhere.

(I keep the NAS read only to avoid accidental deletes/encryption from malware)

I'm not 100% certain but I don't think ratings can be saved outside of the music file itself.

Just wondering if your music is all R/O, how do you manage editing tags?

Deselect at:
Edit->Edit Preferences->Tags(1)...tag storage...store ratings in the music file
