Group AlbumArtist by first letter - multiple groups of same letter

Just wondering if anyone's seen this before and has any ideas.

Using the thumbnail browser to display Album Artist and choosing to "Group by first letter" results in multiple groups of V and W (the only ones affected as far as I can tell). MB seems to disregard the first letter and instead sorts and groups them by their second letter, resulting in this:



I was using a custom language file so I tried switching back to English (US), no dice.
The issue follows me across different tab-layouts (mentioning it since I've had issues tied to specific tab-layouts before)
My "Artist and Composer Name Sorting" list is completely empty.
Using the latest official (unpatched) 3.4.7764.

That's strange, I can't reproduce the issue here.

Are you sure that the "V" and "W" characters are actually the same English character in all those cases and not a character from another language that just happens to look the same?

I'm asking since in your screenshot it reads: AlbumArtist.
Perhaps you are using a virtual tag for it that includes some kind of sorting?

It might be the sorting for your language region (as set in windows) where v and w are treated the same for sorting purposes. I vaguely recall thats the case for Swedish?

To the best of my knowledge, yes. All files are tagged using Musicbrainz Picard and I haven't messed with any settings pertaining to text standards.

Yes, I am. There's an extremely good reason behind this that I can't remember, but I'm using an override label for the standard 'Album Artist' tag.

Yep, you nailed it. Changing the language format from 'Swedish' to 'English (US)' solved the issue. Unfortunately, that messes with my time/date settings, mainly how they're displayed. I'm guessing there's no other way around this besides choosing what's more important?

Thanks, but it's still not working. I noticed that this does not only apply to the thumbnail browser or 'Group by first letter', but sorting in general (tried 'Album Artist', 'Genre' and 'Publisher' - same result on both), which is really weird as I'm 100% sure I would've noticed this behavior earlier. Can't recall any major system or software changes lately but I'll poke around some more.

what windows version are you using and can you confirm your computer region is sweden or finland?

i am guessing you are using windows 7 or 8 as the Swedish sorting on windows 10 doesnt group v and w together.

Yeah, I'm still on 7 and region is Sweden.

Format (the one that controls the date/time format) is 'Swedish (Sweden)' and so is my keyboard layout - everything else on the OS is in English.

Latest patch didn't do anything, even after a reboot. Changing the format to 'English (United States)', even as MB is running, instantly orders everything the correct way.

I appreciate you giving it a shot but you shouldn't put any more time into this if it only affects Windows 7 users in Sweden. I need to get my sh*t together and make the move to 10 anyway as support for other essential software is being dropped.

If that's the main issue here, you could choose e.g. English (UK) instead

That's one perfect workaround if I've ever seen one. Musicbee looks right and so does the date, haven't noticed any issues with this process as of yet. Thank you very much!
