Hello!

Was trying to get my head around syncing MusicBee with my android phone.
I use MediaMonkey on my phone, and if I sync a playlist, the songs on that playlist would then be doubled in the album in question.

"Your selections here are additive. If you choose to sync some playlists and some folders, MusicBee will sync all the files in the playlists AND all the files in the folders."

I believe that's what this line is referring to.

I've spent the best part of 4/5 years now without playlists, but want to try and find a way to make it work.

Any suggestions?

Only thing I can think of is switching my MusicBee to MediaMonkey, although I'm not sure even that would solve the problem..

First off, a playlist file is only a text file. It contains the path to the songs that are "in" the playlist.

When syncing a playlist, if the songs referenced in the playlist (text) file are already on the device, they do not get copied again. Therefore you would not have two files of the same track.

Have you actually tried syncing with MB to your phone?
Download the latest MusicBee v3.5 or 3.6 patch from here.
Unzip into your MusicBee directory and overwrite existing files.

I tried some stuff but a very long time ago.

My library's bigger than the space available on my phone's SD card.
Doesn't that mean I'd have to transfer files manually and selectively?

I was thinking of ticking the "synchronise playlists" option, and transferring other files manually?

I suggest selecting one or two playlists in MB's device settings configuration. Don't select any other files. Run the sync and you'll see that MB will transfer the files referenced in the playlist to the device. If there are music files you want to sync to the device that aren't in any playlists, you can MB to transfer those also. You could set up a playlist called "To Phone" or something like that and then sync that playlist to the phone.

Unzip into your MusicBee directory and overwrite existing files.

Right, I see what you mean!
Will give that a shot and see how it goes, thanks.

Right, so I've been trying to get it to sync since yesterday, and it's copying some stuff, but I keep getting the error message "Synchronisation has temporarily stalled for 3-10 minutes while the device processes current file op...(erations?)".

I looked at some other posts about this, tried ticking the "allow wifi sync for android devices", tried "unticking the "delete files that are not on the auto-sync" option, but it keeps coming up with it.

Any ideas?

Are you doing a wired/USB sync or a WiFi sync?
If the latter, do you have the MB WiFi Sync app on your phone?
Download the latest MusicBee v3.5 or 3.6 patch from here.
Unzip into your MusicBee directory and overwrite existing files.

Aha, well now I feel stupid haha.
No, I don't have the app, my phone was still plugged in, so I guess it was still doing it via USB.

Just downloaded it and have started the sync.

You might have to do one wired preview before the WiFi sync will work.

Seems to be working so far.

Quite slow though and I have to leave, so will keep on trying later, and update you then.

Some songs from the playlists have been transferred, but so far Media Monkey has only got them in the artists/song sections, the playlist configurations are non-existent, but maybe it needs to finish first.

Thanks for your help so far by the way!

You'll find that typically a WiFi sync is faster than a wired sync.
Download the latest MusicBee v3.5 or 3.6 patch from here.
Unzip into your MusicBee directory and overwrite existing files.

It failed a few times, but now all good. Could just be my internet connection.

Having that set up now feels good. However, my playlists aren't there?
In the "playlist" section of Media Monkey.

Is this to do with the M3U files?

Well, all the songs from the playlists are, but the playlists aren't, if that makes sense (I may not be using the proper lingo, don't quite understand how it functions!).
I've always assumed the playlists worked thanks to M3U files?

So everything's there in "Tracks" and "Artists" sections, but the playlists aren't.

Yet the sync was done with the "synchronise playlists" options on MusicBee.
