This is an intermittent problem that more often than not promptly closes the tray after opening. If I disable this option and manually eject the CD it never happens.

What version of MB are you using? (Help > About)
How was MB installed? (Store, Installer, Portable)

I've been ripping CDs with MB since the functionality was first introduced and I have never experienced this issue.
Do you have any other ripping software? If so, see if the same issue occurs with it.
Download the latest MusicBee v3.5 or 3.6 patch from here.
Unzip into your MusicBee directory and overwrite existing files.

In my opinion this can't be anything else than a drive hardware issue.
(I see more reports like this on this model)

But if you are absolutely sure it only happens with MusicBee, that is strange.

Can't be absolutely sure as I primarily use MB. I just tested 3 CD's with WMP and had no issues. MB works sometimes but more often than not the tray opens and promptly closes.

Do you have access to another CD drive? Portable or otherwise? That would probably be a good test.
Download the latest MusicBee v3.5 or 3.6 patch from here.
Unzip into your MusicBee directory and overwrite existing files.
