Right Panel Split View

I seem to remember, in a previous version, being able to split the right panel in to 2 sections. I had the upper section showing current track info and the lower section showing lyrics for current song.

Is this still possible and I'm just not seeing how to do it?

Yes, this is possible. Use the layout button next to the search box to open the panel arrangement window. You can choose panels and move them around there. (The wiki has more details on this, if you follow the link in my signature.)
