I would like a feature where MusicBee picks a random album every day and makes it an album of that day.

You could do this with an auto playlist.

aktor, you're right, a random selection won't stay the same all day, but here is a partial solution.

For an auto-playlist selecting a whole album at random, see this post:
https://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=37755.msg207199#msg207199

However, since the auto-playlist's content will change each time you re-open it, you have 2 possible workarounds.
  • Manually save the auto-playlist's content to a static playlist.
  • Or, in the auto-playlist edit window, tick option "automatically export a static copy" (lower left corner).
That static copy will only be overwritten if you re-open the auto-playlist edit window and hit "Save".
The location of static copies is defined in: Preferences -> tab "Library" -> section "playlists" - > option "exported playlists".

Otherwise, a fully automated selection as you wish is not possible in the current state of MusicBee. It would require the ability to set the "random seed" to the value matching "today at 0:00".

So a auto-playlist limit to 1 album selected by random but wit an new option to refresh once a day.

You could also uncheck the box 'automatically refresh the matching tracks' and then every morning hit the 'Refresh Now' button in the playlist edit window.

And just as a note:

That static copy will only be overwritten if you re-open the auto-playlist edit window and hit "Save"
Static copies are also overwritten when you close MusicBee

But the point is that it should be automatic maybe with hot key, toolbar button or tab.

Aktor, maybe you would be happy with a one-click solution?

Steven, perhaps you would consider adding a 'refresh' function to the auto-playlist header (to duplicate the function of the 'Refresh Now' button in the edit playlist window). Something like this maybe:

This may also be handy for other use cases where the playlist is not automatically refreshed.
