How can I install the Nero aac encoder (.exe file) in the Windows 10 store app version?  The install path for codecs does not exist.

You'd be better off using the Portable version. Much more configurable plus it is update much more frequently.
Download the latest MusicBee v3.5 or 3.6 patch from here.
Unzip into your MusicBee directory and overwrite existing files.

I might have to try that, although I found the solution now - I was looking under devices prefs -> devices and the convert section there, and also under plug-ins, but not there either.  There's a prefs item for 'file converters' didn't see it before, link to the Nero aac (or other executables for encoders) is set-up there. Cheers

put the file anywhere you have write access to and then in the Preferences/ File Converters panel, set the encoder location to the path you installed the nero exe file
