Video formats like .avi, .wmv, .mkv open with external program chosen in setting

but mp4 act like music files and so get opened inside Musicbee (only audio)

is it possible to make mp4 act like video files?

Have you tried setting the association for mp4 in Windows itself?
(Settings > Choose default apps by file type)

Ah, sorry, I wasn't very focused here.
So you have those video files in your MusicBee library on purpose.

I don't use MB for video in any way, maybe some other user can chime in here?

Ah wait, I remembered something.
If you have your mp4 files under the audio node they will be handled as audio, but if you put them under the video node it should work as you want.

Ok, I thought perhaps you were using a 'Store' version. (which sometimes has it's own specific issues)

I'm sorry, I have no other ideas or suggestions.

So is it working normal for you?

I still didn't understand if it's a problem I have, or is it a normal behavior for mp4 files

Could you just try and see if it works for you, so that I understand if it's a problem or just not possible?

As mentioned before, I don't use MB for video files.
I can't test this today, but I can do it tomorrow.

But I am hoping some other forum member can chip in first.

Tried now: MusicBee regularly opens my .mp4 files with VLC ( (both latest portable version).
One more thing: all my audio files in Windows are not associated with MusicBee but with Foobar. I don't know if it's important ...

But on my wife's pc, same configuration, MB plays the .mp4 files as audio files and does not open them inVLC. Very strange.

alright, so I guess I discovered the problem

I am used to put all my files in the monitored folders to go to the inbox, where I edit the tags and then send them to the library

So it's in the Inbox that mp4s are actually considered audio files (since Inbox is in common for all the files)

Then when I send them to the library under the Video node, it's all normal and they act like regular video files
