Hello fellow forum members,

I recently switched from the antique Winamp to MusicBee and so far I'm really loving it!

Sadly I'cant seem to resolve one Issue...
When either using WASAPI (exclusive) or ASIO output modes there are quite annoying popping or crackling sounds during seeking in a song or the moment I pause or resume playback. This however doesn't occure in DirectSound or WASAPI (shared) modes.
For reference i attched a screenshot of my MusicBee player settings:
https://abload.de/img/musicbeesettingsl5kgj.png

Sidenote: The smooth fade setting helps to hide the pops when pausing/resuming, but naturally doesn't help with the seeking. Switching from event to the regular WASAPI mode doesn't make a difference. Played with the other settings - no luck so far.

Is it possible to get rid of these unwanted artifacts/sounds in any of the exclusive modes? Both in Winamp and foobar2000 I can not replicate the issue with their respective WASAPI (exclusive) and ASIO output plugins.

My setup: MusicBee -> Topping DX3 Pro DAC -> Powered Monitors and Headphones

Best Regards

Glad to have another Winamp refugee :)  First off, be sure you are running the latest 3.3x version of MusicBee (you didn't mention what you had);  Steven made some fixes in later updates to address similar issues.  If you are starting with a 3.2x version, grab & run the incremental updater to 3.3x from the post here:  https://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=27074.msg155943#msg155943 .  Then, apply the latest "patch" to 3.3 from the link present in either phred or psychoadept's (the Global Moderators) signature files (https://getmusicbee.com/patches/MusicBee33_Patched.zip) .

If the problem persists, you might try updating both the basswasapi.dll and bassasio.dll (inside the main MB folder) to the latest development versions (2.4.2.3 and 1.3.1.11 respectively) "hidden" at the un4seen site:
http://www.un4seen.com/stuff/basswasapi.zip
http://www.un4seen.com/stuff/bassasio.zip

No guarantees about the dll's but worth a shot.

Hey and thank you very much for your quick reply! :)

I was indeed running a 3.2x version (forgot to mention that), so I followed your instructions and am now on 3.3.7017.
The problem sadly persists, even when using the development versions of basswasapi.dll and bassasio.dll.

Are WASAPI (exclusive) and ASIO working for you...without popping sounds during seeking / jumping in tracks that is?

I do not use ASIO, but have used wasapi-exclusive (event mode) since day one.  I do hear a mild "click" when I click-seek through a file using the built-in seek bar, or release after a pause, but frankly it doesn't bother me and I put it down to buffering or drivers in my less-than-ideal PC build.  I have a Windows 7 SP1 32-bit OS, Realtek HD audio chip, no DAC, sad I know!  I use the development  basswasapi.dll and run MB with no resampling/upmixing/fading.  I do use the excellent internal graphic equalizer, and a VST limiter (the latter mainly for coping with problem radio streams).

You may want to try the "load entire file into memory" option and see if that makes any difference.  If not, I'm out of suggestions, hopefully someone else has more.  You did the right thing updating to 3.3x, major fixes/improvements/additions.

Oops, should mention:  I do NOT experience any click at all when seeking a file via the new Spectrogram plugin (https://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=25944.0) by clicking through the timeline within its display; interesting.

Bump. This bug is still there. Can this be fixed?
You haven't reported back on the other sound issue you asked for help on:
https://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=34223.msg187130#msg187130

Were you able to solve that? Both your issues could very well be related.

Sadly no. Clean reinstallation did not help. Older drivers for my laptop model did not fix the issue and windows automatically updates the audio driver to the current one anyway.
Both your issues could very well be related.
Yeah both could be related. Idk I tried most solutions. I'll just send it to the hp repair someday, but not right now.
The bug that op mentioned though, I cannot be the only one facing it?

I know that the post is dead long time ago and the issue described seems to be unsolvable. Whether it's important or not, but I decide to report. I noticed recently if you tap on the mouse to navigate on the progress bar and release it after the spectrum visualization animation fades, there won't be clicking sound.
I don't think that visualizer has anything to do with it. Disabling it doesn't remove the pops. For now the only to navigate without pops is by using the Spectrogram plugin's progress bar. Wierd.

Sorry to resurrect an old post but changing the Priority level of winamp.exe in task manager to "Above Normal" should help. Crackling appears for me when I'm using other programs like Chrome and Winamp is in background.
