Which is better? Joint Stereo or Stereo How can I make the file converter switch from JS to S or vice versa?

But, seriously, just use a VBR preset that gives you the quality and file size you want. The people who set them up know more about this stuff than most of us ever will. Messing around with custom command lines is highly likely (almost guaranteed unless you're an expert) to give you much worse results.
