While writing a guide on how to display local pictures on TM (https://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=23182.0) I thought maybe a new feature could be added that would make the process much easier and more useful.

- Add a new menu "Select a custom image folder" to the artist panel and artist view of Now Playing node and compact player.
- If a folder is selected, then those panels and the gallery element of any TM views show the local pictures in the folder until the folder selection is turned off.
- Add two settings to that menu as sub-menu item - rotation period (secs and EndOfTrack) & order (alphabetical or random).
- Unlike the current behavior for artist picture, this mode should show full-size pictures with aspect ratio maintained without any cropping and zooming.

That's it. If implemented, this would let users use the feature instantly without having to ask around. Also they don't have to add their local pictures to some specific MB folders or rename them, simply using their existing Picture folder. In addition, alphabetical order will allow to view pictures in some folders in chronological order when they want.

+1   any options for local artist picture slideshow would be welcome

Personally I store artist pictures under the node [Music]\[Artist]\*.*
Album related pictures stored in [Music]\[Artist]\[Album]\*.*

I would like to suggest two things here:

1. An option allowing Artist Art rotation (exclusively) INCLUDING images in an local path like [Music]\[Artist]\*.*
2. An option allowing Album Art rotation (exclusively) INCLUDING images in an local path like [Music]\[Artist]\[Album]\*.*

... therefore ...
- all known picture file formats should be supported
- filenames with an special start character will be excluded from the slideshow - i.e. files starting with an dot .*

Greetings

+1, esp. for ability to select a folder of images at a specified external path outside of MusicBee, ideally NOT subsequently cached to prevent file bloat.

Those are already possible.
For #1, untick "retrieve web picture" option from artist picture view configuration settings of now playing panel. Then it will only rotate local pictures stored in the artist picture folder set in Tags (1) preferences settings.
For #2, all embedded, linked pictures can rotate for album cover. Right click on the cover, for instance, from artist picture view, then you will see "enable image rotation" setting.

Hello redwing, thanks for your response.

For #1:
I've try to figure out what exactly need to be done that MB is displaying local artist images.
So far I've discovered following:
- MB is only displaying local artist art if picture file names start with "[Arist Name]*.*", renaming files is necessary therefore.
- MB ignores artist images stored in a sub-folder named [Artist Name] defined under settings>tags(1)>artist picture location, this should be changed IMHO. So MB just can display ANY files stored in a folder named with [Artist Name], file names can be arbitrary.

For #2:
I think it would be a very nice feature if MB had an option to enable displaying arbitrary picture files inside of an album folder.
No renaming should be necessary neither storing album art inside of music files.
That would be awesome IMHO.

How do you think about that?

There are already wishlist items similar to what you're suggesting created by users already using their images for other programs:

https://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=9659.0
https://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=16380.0

Feel free to add your support to those or create your own, but this thread is not meant for those. This is strictly for rotating local pictures for TM disregarding playing artist / album.

You are absolutely right redwing.
Sorry for assimilating your thread here somehow.
Thanks for the links!
