Author Topic: Anything wrong with the column sort order in the main panel?  (Read 2089 times)

Hello,

Since I installed the newest patch after a long holiday, I have the feeling that the sort order in the columns of the main panel does not work correctly. Sorting itself takes often much more time than before, for my 130.000+ tracks.
But also:
- The sort order is not always correct, alphabetically, neither upwards nor downwards.
- In the DATE ADDED COLUMN the most recent tracks are not (always) on top. Usually MB shows tracks added 18.07.2017 on top of the list but 'forgets' the tracks added after that date. Later, all of a sudden, the newest tracks are suddenly visible. No clue...

No idea if it is a bug, or if I do things wrong.
Others with similar experiences?
And/or a remedy?

Thanks,
Wim

For the artist sort order, what you see something out of place check the new Sorting tag in the tag editor and make corrections as necessary. MusicBee now has its own sort order that is not 100% connected to tags, in order to allow custom sorting of multi value tags.

Hi Psych Again! ;-)

I was not aware of (new?) options to modify the sort order - and till today I did not change anything.
Now I did, after I saw 'Isabelle Aubret' on the alphabetic top of my ARTIST column (???). Customized the sort order to ARTIST/TITLE, with VERY strange results:
- clicked on the ASCENDING arrow: still Isabelle on the top...
- clicked on the DESCENDING arrow: Chinese names on the top (correct, they are at the 'bottom' of the alphabetic sort list)
- clicked on the ASCENDING arrow AGAIN: correct display, starting with 'empty fields', then special characters like •, then numbers, then Aa etc...
- clicked on the ASCENDING arrow AGAIN: now a DIFFERENT Isabelle tops the list: Adjani.
In other words:
The sorting list is not consistent anymore. How come?

Even stranger is the DATE ADDED column:
- I rebuilt the whole database just before my vacation: 18.04.2017 (European calendar format)
- End of July and early August, after my vacation, I added several albums.
- But normally 18.04.2017 still remains the top of the DATE ADDED list
- If I click a few times on the ascending/descending arrows, suddenly the most recent ADDED TRACKS are displayed
- Those most recent ones are also displayed properly if I narrow the search to the name of a recently added artist or album.
- Also for this column: no consistency; different results after different clicks.

A few other strange changes appeared after my vacation - due to the newest patch?
- My number of tracks is 131.000+ but is often (not always!) displayed as 65.000+. I reported it in a separate post extensively and Steven already found a bug that he will repair.
- Several albums have been 'duplicated', that is: two occurrences of each track are displayed, but in my music folder each track is only listed ONCE. The result is that if I try to delete the duplicate album, both versions will be deleted. First I noticed only ONE false-duplicate-album, at the moment I already found THREE. One of them finally could be deleted without the twin being gone too. Rough checks however show that most albums/tracks are just displayed correctly: ONCE.

Could it be possible that all these display problems are related to the same bug in the newest patch???
I can just report what I see - do not have the skills and knowledge to analyze the cause or suggest any solution.
Others can, hopefully.

Let me know what you think,
Greetz,
Wim

ALL SOLVED!

After I installed version 3.1.6427 all three problems mentioned below were gone:
• the number of tracks is correctly 131.000+, under all circumstances I tried so far
• the date added column works normally and shows the expectely recently added tracks
• the sort order by title or artist is normal again.

Steven already informed me that he found a difficult-to-detect bug and would repair it.
Apparently or at least most likely the two other problems were related: apparently just half of my collection in the library was counted and displayed, also in title, artist, date added sorts.

Thanks, Steven!
