Is it possible to create an Auto-Playlist containing only one random track for each artist?

You could hack this with a playlist mixer.  Make a rule to select one track and set it not to repeat the same artist in [# artists in your library].

Where you have 999 you need to have 1, and put the number of artists in "gap before same artist can repeat"

You won't get a whole big list, but when you play it, it should play only one song for each artist
