On albums where the Artist and Album Artist are different, MB is putting them together in the Album Artist tag, like this...

ID3 tag:
ARTIST: Jim Smith
ALBUM ARTIST: Various Artists

MusicBee:
ARTIST: Jim Smith
ALBUM ARTIST: Dexter Gordon; Various Artists

This causes a "Jim Smith" entry to appear in my Album Artists list, and I really don't want that. Is there a way to make MB stop doing this?

thanks!

I think a screenshot would be more helpful here.  Where does the "Dexter Gordon" piece come in, for instance?

Crap. I'm sorry, I originally used Dexter Gordon as an example, then changed it to Jim Smith to "generic-ify" it, and didn't get all of them. Let me go back to Dexter:

ID3 tag:
ARTIST: Dexter Gordon
ALBUM ARTIST: Various Artists

MusicBee:
ARTIST: Dexter Gordon
ALBUM ARTIST: Dexter Gordon; Various Artists

Now for the screen captures:

ID3 tag:

MusicBee:

As a result of that, I have a Dexter Gordon entry in my Album Artists list with one track on it. I hope that clears up the confusion I've created.  :)

That's helpful, thanks.  Can you show the Tag Inspector in MusicBee?  You can open it from within the Tag Editor.

I'm guessing this "TXXX/ENSEMBLE" thing has something to do with it, eh?

If that's actually embedded in my files I'll bet it's gonna be a joy to remove.

Yep, I bet that's it.  It shouldn't be too hard to fix.  Select files and use the "remove tags" command in the tools menu to remove that tag.
