By the way, I have collaborated with the Developer/Programmers from several pieces of software that I utilize and promote. Quite extensively. Personal email and phone number extensive like. Important software, like a database, including pictures, for Firearms, you would not believe how much data 1 gun can be encumbered with... he started in Windows98, thats how long. Software such as "Universal Media Server" and "e-Sword" {for both Desktop and mobile}. I'm also paid by Amazon as an "Interface Specialist" for their main GUI Team.

So I pretty much know how software is SUPPOSED to work vs how it actually works. Junk code, or "leftovers" left in are 90% of the problem. Microsoft is NOTORIOUS for this... which is part of why they switched from local disk user installed to cloud server-side based for their flagship products.

Undocumented functionality is NOT a good thing. It's not funny, it's not helpful. So when someone points out a glitch in the App, the Programmer should pay attention, if they really care about the App. Or sell it off to someone who would/does. It's NOT a personal thing, so no one should take it that way. It's just good business.

This is HANDS DOWN the most excellent software of this type. IMHO, it is only lacking therin a background "server" component, {so the App doesn't have to be running for the Remote App to play songs} ... and better technical support.

Having a huge user-base is a GREAT thing and even better is when the bulk of them are as willing as most all of the contributors here are... that being said, the MOST they could possible help out with is verifying an issue, or helping out with settings and preferences.

Direct communication with the person/team who can actually make a change is ESSENTIAL.

Offer made.

So, how many of you snowflakes are willing to cough up $20, or $15, or $10 a year to get better support ???
And if, say, only 10% of the main users did pay up, and Steve got a deposit of say, $2500 all of a sudden this week, don't you think he might be persuaded to sit down and devote some real time to addressing the top 3 or 5 or 10 issues people say they have ???
How about if, say, HALF of ALL the Users of MusicBee sent in just $10 dollars ... just from Cnet that's 86,249 users. I think Steven might consider giving up his day job, kick the kids, wife and dog out of the house and really get to work on this and other Apps he has. imho.

My $10 bucks alone is not going to change anything. Of course I would pay way more, I'm just sayin'.

How about $49.99 for LIFETIME License and Support from only 10% ... that might make a difference.

First off, I do not speak for Steven. Either he will respond to this rant, or he won't.

That being said, Steven is not doing MB for the money, so I think you're wasting your time. Steven's development of MB is a hobby. He ENJOYS developing and maintaining it. When it no longer provides enjoyment for him, he'll either open source it, or kill it. He's pretty much said this in the past.

I still contend that you are very wrong assuming hundreds of users are experiencing the issue you are. If that many people have the same issue, why aren't they posting about it?
Download the latest MusicBee v3.5 or 3.6 patch from here.
Unzip into your MusicBee directory and overwrite existing files.

@MTOakey;

You don't seem to have read my reply, but I already suggested the solution.
Your issue is entirely based on your misunderstanding. Thumbnail browser with folder name category selected simply shows the artwork of the first song. It never reads folder.jpg and there's no setting that can control what picture to show. The artwork settings in Preferences are only related to album artwork.
So read my reply again.

I think ALL the "scroll bars" need to be wider

Open the skin xml file you're using with a text editor.
If you add the following code, you will get the thickest scrollbar MB can offer:

Code
<element id="ScrollBarMargin">0</element>
<element id="ScrollPanelMargin">0</element>

Do you really think people that are NOT experiencing the problem - ARE reading about the problem ???
1200 VIEWS of the problem... those are unique, not repeat views.

I've viewed this thread, but don't have the problem, does that make it 1199 people?

Oh hang, on I saw someone else in this thread say they've never experienced it either, 1198...

...do you see the flaw in your logic yet?

People view threads here out of interest, or to see if they can help, unique thread views do not equate to the number of people who have that problem.

So, let's look at MusicBee itself. MusicBee is developed by ONE person and it's totally free. That ONE person puts a huge amount of effort into improving it constantly, answering questions, acting swiftly on people's reports and adding requested features.

I've been using MusicBee for three years now, and in that time Stephen has looked into and fixed minor errors I was having, added one or two things to the app that I requested and been helpful and courteous in every dealing I've had with him.

Try and get that level of service from ANY paid software. In this case, he's looked at the problem, can't reproduce it and therefore can't spend any more time on it, perfectly reasonable. What do you want him to do, spend ALL his time on a problem he can't reproduce?

Now, as to this problem, I've never experienced it with MusicBee either, but I DID experience it, and many other problems with files being moved or deleted, tags being altered no matter how many times I turned that setting off etc etc etc when I was using Windows Media Player (WMP). Unless you deactivate it WMP works in the background ALL the time moving everything to where Microsoft programmers want it, rather than where you want it. My advice would be to look in WMP settings and make sure that the folder it uses for it's library is one where you don't actually store any of your music files. That alone may solve the problem.

Thank You for your input redwing but, I have already proven that theory wrong, and I have read your reply, and Thanked you for it. When I switched to "Grouping" it also messed up the order of presentation AND the thumbnails. I'm staying with "Folder" as it is easy enough to customize Windows folders using both .ico and folder.jpg and as long as MB presents the correct pic - I'm happy ...

By removing ALL files from the folder, and choosing "Folder name" in the Header menu bar, one sees a stylized triangle with dots on the joints ... = ... No "folder.jpg" in the directory.
If I put ANY other *.jpg in the folder, one still sees the "no files" triangle... WHEN I put a file named "Folder.jpg" in the folder - and it is a picture - THEN it automatically shows up in that "thumbnail browser column" - hence the "Album art" for that folder, not for any song that is not there. One does not have to tell MB this, it just does it. When/IF I put a song in the folder AND edit it in MB THEN the thumbnail changes to that of the song and no longer that of the folder... but ONLY if I edit it in MB, NOT if I edit it in other apps.

I realize mine is just 1 of possibly 100 differing configurations for viewing songs in MB, and I also realize that Steven mentioned HE couldn't replicate the issue back then... maybe NOW with new data and explanation HE might be able to replicate the issue, maybe not.

Maybe it's just me. Laws of Probability alone suggest that Unlikely.

I have discovered an easy work around and I'm just saying that the issue exists whether or not anyone else mentioned it.

I have roughly 1,960,xxx folders on my 4Tb C: drive and not a problem with any of them EXCEPT the ones {presented} INSIDE of MB. I have customized several hundred I'm sure and they all show correctly all the time.

LoL jasongnome, I stand corrected on the numbers then ;-)

I never meant 100%, but certainly not 0% either...

I know I registered my copy almost a year after I downloaded it, because I need to learn to type faster all around. So I have been using MB since Windows 7, I believe, almost 5 years maybe.

And THANK YOU for the info on WMP, I don't have that installed on my drive, and I have never experienced this "file moving issue" you speak of. I do know the M$ changed where they/IT wants to KEEP user serviceable files, and when an UPGRADE is applied, it then moves files from to old location to the new location,,, but it's NEVER going to have the permission to move audio files or picture files from a Directory I have put them in to some other.

I also have NO Apple software on my drives - at all - ever - never.

I just checked, with 5 servers operating, Chrome Browser, MB and TagScanner, Komposer, Notepad++ and Filezilla open, 37 tabs in Chrome and Gmail always open, my disk access is only 1%, CPU is only 7%, so there is nothing going on in the background that I am aware of, certainly nothing I have ever noticed anyway, certainly NONE of my files have ever been moved from where I put them... ever.

I REALLY need to learn to type faster.

OMG thread views are at 3389 now it's an epidemic MB is melting down everyone's artwork!  ;D

Right. It shows "folder.jpg" in the folder but only when there are some music files in the folder.

When/IF I put a song in the folder AND edit it in MB THEN the thumbnail changes to that of the song and no longer that of the folder

I can't replicate this. Any conditions for the new track? And what if the track only contains an embedded artwork?

frankz - hilarious.

but it also proves my point, because since the original post, there have certainly NOT been an additional 2,189 CONTRIBUTING Users here on this Forum, so clearly at least SOME of them have SOME kind of issue with "folder.jg" art... not everyone is going to post just to say "I've got the same problem..." but they will be looking for any advice on how to fix whatever problem they do have ...

redwing,

1.) ONLY "folder.jpg" that actually is a picture {any other file just renamed to folder.jpg does nothing to MB} and even when it is the ONLY file in that directory. No music file necessary.

2.) I really can't pinpoint anything different or unusual about any of the music files, most when downloaded have no tags at all. But, like I mentioned above, if I tag & embed using a different App, no problems for me. If I tag in MB, no problems for me. If I embed in MB and click "Save" is where the problem jumps out and bites me on the nose. {would have used a different part of anatomy, but don't want to get chastised anymore.} ;-)

When I say "tag in MB" I mean either me entering the info directly in the "Tracks display" spreadsheet style window, per song... or using the "Edit" popup window "Auto-tag" function and clicking the "Save" button {not touching artwork}.

This is a very weird and specific bug, and there is every chance it is only my copy on my computer. I have WAY too much going on that could possibly interfere with MB, maybe.

Thanks for checking though.

Can you post a screenshot of your library settings (Preferences> Library)?
Also I recommend you update to the latest v3.3 as many bugs have been fixed.

redwing, Sure. http://www.i-zoe.com/MBscreengrab-LibraryPrefs.jpg

When I go here https://getmusicbee.com/downloads/, it states I have the newest version {same as download}

Where might I acquire v3.3 ... inquiring minds might query... ?

Here: https://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=27074.msg159984#msg159984

Or just apply the patch for now and then later install v3.3 when the official version is released:

https://getmusicbee.com/patches/MusicBee33_Patched.zip (unzip and overwrite existing files in your MB program folder)
