It is mentioned in various places here, but this is the xml file you need to edit:

Looking in  tag 2 of  preferences  i find genre  and genre categories ..

clicking genre  i see "Gospel: Religious"

in genre categories
i see
Religious: Gospel
Religious: Gregorian Chant
Religious: Hymn
Religious: Spiritual

so for Power Metal to be a genre category of Metal
genre   "Power Metal : Metal "
in genre categories
Metal : Power Metal

have i got that right ?

so why not have a tool in Musicbee to edit this
Genre Name="Power Metal" Category="Rock"/>

just like that  much easier

just have a tool enter Genre Name ... you get linked of genre category

hahah    in notpad ++ here we come

Yeah, keeping a text file or spreadsheet of genre categories is a good idea.

I don't think Genre Category needs a special tool, but I suppose someone might be able to write a plugin for it.

when i found the genre categories i thought start typing and it will take me to the first  letter it started overwriting text .. s tool would make it   easier to see what genre  is linked to what genre categories not even a tool just a better way of doing it  ..... something on tags 2 tab would be nice too ( tags2 editor page) unless i missed something no easy way to do it there

Once in Genre Category, you can edit, add, or delete directly in the window. Just be sure to click 'save' when done.

looking at it as a new user  it's  a bit clunky  the way  it's done atm  i was thinking you could add genre categories the same way you add  genre.  at  least have  something on the same  page  of tag editor

Having a link to the genre category window from within the genre editor (by where the genre search box already is) seems like a decent idea.

  • Now with FiiO M11!
I personally think the current tool is more than adequate. You can list by genre or category, everything is alphabetized, you just edit what's there or add to it. Same as you'd do with a spreadsheet or text editor.

so now am  confused why have two   lists ?  clicking genre  i see "Gospel: Religious"

in genre categories
i see
Religious: Gospel....  does one get updated by the other automatically ?

i understand  genre  is  for  types of music   so you could have Gospel;Bluegrass  or "Gospel Bluegrass"   "Church Music"

now all of these genre  could be under  one genre category "Religious"

so now i need to go to genre categories

and ender

Religious: Gospel
Religious: Gospel Bluegrass
Religious: Bluegrass
Religious: Church Music

Both lists are updated when you update either one. They just offer different ways of sorting the list: by genre or by category
