I like the pin button on the left sidebar, but once you've pinned it, there is no way to unpin it unless you go into Panels Configuration and switch it back to auto-hide.  Maybe the icon could stay there, and be converted to an "unpin" button that would put it back in auto-open mode?

If you did something like this for the right sidebar, too, it would completely replace the functionality of the open/close buttons in the status bar.

...it would be cool if it was semi-transparent in the Now Playing tab.
Jus sayin.

after all these years, unpinning the left sidebar (only if it had been previously pinned) is done for the next v3.4 update

The Configure Layout button in the toolbar to the left of the Search box includes display options for the Left Sidebar.

If you set this to Auto-Open, the Sidebar is only displayed when you move your cursor to the left of the MusicBee window.
When you display it this way, in the top-right corner of the Sidebar is a little pin button that you can use to toggle between showing it all the time or hiding it automatically.
Bee excellent to each other...
