Couldn't find something that looks like this, so I hope someone might have some ideas.

Synchronizing Playlist songs only on to the player.  Songs appear to come over (Copied), at the end, the Playlists come over (Copied).

The Device Synchronisation [sic] dialog box never closes on it's own.  (If it's supposed to.)  It reads Synchronising files / Synchronisation Failed above the track listing. There is one
track that shows Copied Failed - Unable to find the specified file.  (Everything else reads Copied.)  Below the track listing, it reads Copy Failed - Unable to find the specified file.

Other:  If I hover over the track listing, the blue circle "busy" indicator spins.  If I try to close the dialog box, it reads "Files are still being transferred - do you want to abort the process?  (Note:  I've gone through this process several times and have let it sit overnight with the same result in the morning, so I don't believe files are actually being transferred.  I believe it is hung up.)

On the player, the Playlists appear and the song Names, Albums and Artwork all appear for all tracks.

Problem:  On the player, about 20% of the songs will not play.  It shows that they can't be found and zero time on the timer.  They appear in the Playlist, but if you look in the Songs listing, they aren't there.  Note:  There are instances of one song off of an album working fine and another not.

Songs are a mix of mp3 and wma.

Equipment:

Pioneer XDP-100R-K Hi Res player.  Android 5.1.1 OS

Windows i7 laptop, Windows 10
All songs are stored and transferred from the same external hard drive.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.  Thanks very much -

Mike

Update.

Although there have been 40 reads, no answers to this.  As a result, I've gone ahead and updated from v2.5 to v3.0.5972 in hopes that the problem would clear itself up.

No joy.

The issue is more significant than I originally estimated.  It's probably over 30+% of songs that don't sync.  They will play from the player on the laptop, but in some cases on the player 1) album folders appear with no songs.  2) albums appear with some songs appearing, some not and 3) albums not appearing at all in spite of appearing in the player under Music.

As I've continued to experiment with adjustments and resync, additional issues appear.  There are now songs that were fine that are appearing with Artist as now Unknown.

The problem with the sync appearing to hang continues consistently.  A sync has never completed without the Sync Failed result and hang up as described in the original post.

Having a clean, consistent way to sync 8900 songs to the new high end DAP was my main reason for searching for a new tool.  MB works well on the computer, but the syncing process is not well documented and is not performing, unfortunately.

I'm hoping the issues are mine.  If anyone has ideas about what I may be doing wrong, I'd love to hear them.

Thanks

Is there anything in the error log at the time of the sync?  Help > Support > view error log
Download the latest MusicBee v3.5 or 3.6 patch from here.
Unzip into your MusicBee directory and overwrite existing files.

Hi, Phred -

Thanks for your note.

Here's the ErrorLog for the most recent sync.  A couple of things.  1) The files referenced were deleted from the hard drive AND I went back and removed them from the Library and from the library in the Portable Device (thinking that is wouldn't be "looking" for them).  2) I don't know why it's looking for ANYTHING on the C: drive.  Under Preferences/Library/Monitored Folders I have it set to Scan At Startup only and ONLY E:\Music\  which is where the music is that I want addressed.  (In another instance where the program seems to ignore the requested instructions, under Portable Device/Music I went through and deselected a few folders of things I know I won't listen to.  I expected that those folders would not be sync'd.  They were anyway - while some of the checked items were not.)

Any ideas are appreciated.  I spent a good part of yesterday and most of today with this, so I've exhausted my ability to "logic" my way through it.

MB wont be randomly choosing files from the c: drive. They will be referenced somewhere in the files to sync list eg. perhaps some playlist.
For the System.NullReferenceException error, let me know if you will run a debug version

Steven -

Thanks for taking a look at this.

Regarding the C: drive, I'm sure it's not truly "random", but on the other hand, in my previous Zune mgt software, for YEARS I have kept the C: drive/Music folder simply for initial rips (kind of my version of the Inbox), then directed the software to the external drive for sync and updating purposes.  I can't provide 100% certainty that somehow, somewhere there's not a C: drive reference, but it's not likely.

I'm happy to run a debug version, just let me know what you need me to do.  I'm not a novice (my first laptop had an amber screen, so I've been around a while), but I'm not a programmer.  If you provide good instructions, I can follow them.

It is UNBELIEVABLE what you have created here.  I appreciate your work and intentions very much.   At the same time, I want to be up front about the issues I run in to and the opportunities for improvement or clarification.  That should hopefully allow for improvement for everyone.

Thanks very much -

Mike

Good news/Bad news.

I figured out that some of my problems were related to how the player was handling WMA files.  The easiest way to resolve it was to convert all the WMAs to MP3/Archive versions, which I completed yesterday.

After that, the sync actually completed without an error for the first time.  (Yea!)  Several syncs between yesterday and today appeared to complete correctly.

A few minutes ago, a sync completed and, for some reason, showed two files that had been syncing fine as "not copied" and I was back in the "failed/hung up" situation.  I went to resync and it crashed (error below).  I have restarted MB several times, unplugged the DAP, restarted the DAP.  Now every time I go to sync, it crashes.

Can you send me the debug version when you can, if that's the best next step?  Thanks, again -

Mike

i dont understand why .WMA files would cause any issue. For the most recent error you reported, could you run this debug version and when the error occurs open the error log (help/ support/view error log) and send me the info at the end. It should include some text "l=999" and i need that number

http://www.mediafire.com/download/sjgd4w4ipow1b08/MusicBeeDebug.zip

unzip this version into the folder MB is installed

Thanks!

To be clear, the WMA problem was on their end, not MB's.

I extracted the file and opened MB.  I attached the player and it went through it's scanning routine.  Once it started to sync, it got through 2 songs, then crashed.  This is consistent with what has happened previously.

Here's the info from the error log:

this is one of those errors thats somehow slipped through the cracks and is going to be reported over and again for anyone synchronising playlists to its own folder on a MTP device
This should address the issue:
http://musicbee.niblseed.com/V3_0/MusicBee3_Patched.zip

unzip into the folder MB is installed

OK.  Progress.  I'm back to being able to sync again.  However, I'm also back to where it won't finish without an error, then it hangs and has to be forced to close with Cancel or X.

The Error Log is below.  These two songs are showing up as "not found" and appear to be causing the error.  I hear what you said about MB not randomly going to the C: drive and I'm sure that's true.  However...

-The songs indicated were a recent CD rip.  They've not been added to any playlist that would have pointed to the C drive.
-They were ripped to the location indicated, then moved to the E drive along with all the other songs on the CD.  None of the other songs appear to be a problem.
-Nothing was left in that location.
-The songs play fine in MB from their E location.
-I've completed searches on MB as well as my C and E drives to be certain there are no copies of or references to these song names.

How do I break this chain and allow the product to sync without an error?  I want to get past this so I can get beyond the basics of the program.  Sorry this has to continue.

1 - Are you using MB to rip the CD?
2 - Are you using MB to move the ripped tracks to the E drive?

If 1 is yes and 2 is no, that could be part of the problem.  You'd be better off moving files using MB so it can keep track of where they are.
Download the latest MusicBee v3.5 or 3.6 patch from here.
Unzip into your MusicBee directory and overwrite existing files.

Phred has good suggestions.  I went through the whole thread again just to be sure but nothing extra special jumped out at me.  What has occasionally happened to me is that a file moved but because MB crashed and the library wasn't updated, there was a ghost link left.  Sometimes it has shown up at the top or bottom of a section, and sometimes under "Unknown".

What do you get if you go to Tools > Tagging Tools > Other "Files to Edit" Filters > Show Dead Links?  (Try this with both the Music Library and the Inbox.)

Phred & Pshcoadept-

Thanks for your thoughts.  Much appreciated.

1 - Are you using MB to rip the CD?
   > Yes, MB was used to rip the CD.

2 - Are you using MB to move the ripped tracks to the E drive?
  > I know that I had used File Explorer to move something that I had ripped before I pieced together from Forum comments that this causes problems.  I can't say for certain if this CD was what I moved in that way. I now understand and have/will use MB to move music going forward.

****psychoadept****  Gold Star!  I started running the Show Dead Links routine (which I hadn't discovered) and located where the files needed to be updated to the E location.  THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!  Just ran the sync twice, it completed successfully and I appear to be clean.

Another bit of related guidance while I have the two of you....

My playlists weren't showing up where I wanted them to on my DAP.  In experimenting, I changed Playlist Storage to "create a sub-folder for each playlist and it's tracks".  That got the playlists to show up correctly, but now when I sync MB processes 1700+ files.  I'm assuming that's the number of songs in my various playlists.  (Seems about right.)  It appears that with this checkbox selected MB resyncs those playlists in their entirety each time whether or not there have been any changes.  Is that correct?  Any suggestions on speeding that up or other configurations I should try?

Once again, thank you both for your input.  I am so close to loving this product.....just gotta get over these newbie humps.
