fast year tagging

I have the following problem. Hope someone has a good idea.
I have to label the year of a song to a few thousand songs. Its old music quite unknown so last.fm or other sources dont have the information. I have lists with all the dates. So what would be great would be if I could type in the xear and then use the down arrow key to get to the one below. This however only works if the year has not been used before. If it has the down and up arrows will not get you to the next field but only through the year"options". Any ideas?

You might be able to use the additional tagging & reporting tools to make it a little easier.  Others can give you better advice on exactly how than I can, but I.know there's a way to import data from a text file or the clipboard

I always have to look it up in the list so I cant automatically get it from the list...
