Is it possible to display the thumbnail browser with the playlist manager?

I have unchecked the "hide for playlists option". Also, "hide left main panel" in the panel configuration is unchecked. I don't need it for all playlists, just the really long ones. I thought I could control this with the panel config but that doesn't seem to be working.
