Man, does this ever belong in the Beyond Music Bee category.

I'm very close to the end of a tagging project that solely involved find the year of about 1000 tracks.   Listed below are 56 tracks that I can't find on the Internet.  Or if they are on the 'net, there's no indication of year.  For the purpose of finishing this project, I'm defining "year" as the year recorded -or- the year released.  In lieu of either of those dates, I'll accept the year the track appeared on a compilation album.  If anyone is familiar with any of these tracks and can find the year, I'd be most appreciative.  I also listed the genre of each as an aid in finding the right track.  Lastly, the first five tracks listed are also missing the artist.  They're all of the Swamp Pop (or Zydeco) genre, so that might help narrow down the artist and the year.

Thanks in advance for any help provided.

Here are some leads that might help:

Moby - Mission: Impossible

-

The Go-Gos - Hey Mickey

Are you sure this isn't the Tony Basil song Mickey?  Wiki has no Go-Gos version listed: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mickey_%28song%29.  Or it could be a bootleg from a concert, I suppose.

If there's any question of the accuracy of the tags, you might check out different versions on youtube for comparison (and sometimes there's good info in the comments, if tracks are labeled incorrectly there!). I've had a handful of songs over the years that were straight up mislabeled.

@pyschoadept-

Great info.

Yes, I've discovered many tracks on YouTube that are incorrectly identified.  But it's part of the challenge.   :)

As for Mission Impossible and Banana Boat Song, I'm going with what you pointed me to.  Hey Mickey is another matter.  I listened to Tony Basil's version on YouTube and it's pretty damn similar to what I have as The Go-Go's.  I'll dig a little deeper into this, but I think I'll have to re-tag the tag completely and give it to Basil.  I'm pretty sure I got the track from a CD I took out from the library, so I might be able to track it down there.

Thanks.

EDIT:  Hey Mickey is confirmed as Toni Basil.  I was able to play the YouTube track and what I have in sync and they're exact!  Thanks for pointing this out.

phred,
there is a link on the amazon page (from link above) for the album "Merry Cajun Christmas" that lists "Cajun Night Before Christmas" and "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town".
could these be the same as the ones on your list?

One is (Santa Claus is Coming to Town) and one isn't.  It appears that Night Before Christmas is being read by a local Louisiana disk jockey back in 2005.  I guess I never listened to it all the way through.  DELETE.

Thanks again.

Quite honestly, I've gotten more of a response that I thought I'd get.  Especially with the Zydeco stuff.

The one that's killing me right now is It Ain't Me Babe with Bob Dylan and Janis Joplin.  Getting this one would be a feather in my cap, along with the cap of whoever can tell me the year.  For a while I was thinking the woman's voice was Joan Baez, but I've been able to confirm (by length of track, and file size) that it's Janis.  This one's a toughie!

are you sure it's not one of the Joan Baez versions?
24 July 1964 - Newport Folk Festival - Released on: Joan Baez - Live At Newport - 02 August 1998.
31 October 1964 - New York Philharmonic Hall - Released on: The Bootleg Series, Vol. 6: Bob Dylan Live 1964 - Concert at Philharmonic Hall

It's definitely not the Bootleg Series as I have that and just listened to both of them.  I'll research the Newport Folk Festival tomorrow.  But again, given the length of the track and the bitrate, it seems to be matching up with something I found online with Joplin.
Thanks for continuing the search.

Are you sure the Springsteen song is "Sitting on the Dock of the Bay"? It's not listed as something he's ever performed on Brucebase (which is [r]here[/u]), and Brucebase is very comprehensive.
Bold words in my posts are links unless expressly stated otherwise.

Hmmm ... I'll turn your question around.  I'm sure it's Dock of the Bay.  But now, based on your Brucebase comment, I'm not sure it's Bruce.  It starts off with a voice saying "It's an honor to play one of his songs with him here tonight."  So that helps with the date, as the 'him' being referred to must be Otis Redding who died in 1967.  And I can't say for certain that the voice of the person doing the intro is Springsteen.

More work for tomorrow.

Thanks.

Mentioning file size and bitrate suggests you're comparing the track you have with tracks listed elsewhere online, but you can't assume that the other tracks are correct.

I notice it less these days, but pre bittorrent in the days of Ye Olde Soulseek tracks weren't tagged or named properly, if at all. It only takes one person to tag something incorrectly and share it, and a few months later thousands of people think Weird Al is swearing like a sailor in half of his songs.
Bee excellent to each other...
