Dear reader,

What is the maximum amount of characters I can use  for a artistname?
At the sourcelocation they are visible, but not in Musicbee.
I have now up to 70 characters in a artistname.
Who have for me the right answer"

Thanks

I don't think there is a limit.  Filenames can't go over 255 characters, but a 70-character artist name shouldn't be a problem.

Unless you are that artist and get invited to do an in-store book signing.

Yeah, there's a couple of posts missing in this thread now...  :P

Tagging and organising classical music has always been a tricky scenario. However, I'm sure I've seen posts from other forum members where they have very long values in the artist and title tags - to include movements and orchestras and conductors and soloists etc. Only Steven knows what, if any, the limit is in the code but 70 characters should work. An easy way to check is to just edit tags on a dummy file and set the artist title to something ridiculously long and see if it still works.

If your actual question is why your tag values don't appear in MusicBee there might be some other problem.

There are limitations and they are likely dependent on the audio file format.
However I don't have problems with multiple artist like
Kremer, Gidon [Violin]; Meyer, Sabine [Clarinet]; Hagen, Veronika [Viola]; Hagen, Clemens [Cello]; Maisenberg, Oleg [Piano]
or
Henschel, Dietrich [Baritone]; Begley, Kim [Tenor]; Hollop, Marcus [Bass]; Fischer-Dieskau, Dietrich [Baritone]; Orchestre et Choeur de l'Opéra National Lyon; Nagano, Kent [Conductor]

there is a 255 character limit for standard tags m4a files.
