My suggestion is for an iTunes style tabs bar as this screenshot mockup shows.

Can you elaborate on what you mean? For one thing, they don't look like working as "tabs". Are they selectors for filters?

I've been pondering upon the changes brought by iTunes 12, and feel that there's something to learn and adopt. So I guess this will start some discussion.

I've been pondering upon the changes brought by iTunes 12, and feel that there's something to learn and adopt. So I guess this will start some discussion.

There's a number of different ways it could work.
1. A cosmetic change that functions the same way tabs do now.
2. A visually appealing way to activate your library filters.
3. A space-saving alternative to the column browser if you only need to display a few items (eg. genre categories)

I could dig this for library filters.  It would clarify the difference between switching nodes and changing filters.
