Author Topic: Media keys randomly stop working (even with Alternative Mediakey Plugin)  (Read 3924 times)

I have a Compaq Presario laptop with Windows 7 64x.

When I start MusicBee, media keys work fine, but sometimes they randomly either stop working globally (i.e. when MusicBee is not the active window) or stop working even if MusicBee is the active window.

I've tried using Alternative Mediakey Plugin (and yes I made sure it was enabled) but the problem still persists.

This is very frustrating, and I don't know what to try next.

MusicBee v 2.4.5349

I should also mention if I close and re-open MusicBee, the keys usually start working again... until they stop working again.

that is exactly or nearly exactly the same as the released v2.4 version you were using. The reason for your issue is most likely because windows silently disables applications for global keyboard hook handling if they take too long to respond. My guess is you might have a heavy load running on your computer. But as i said, i dont think i can do anything about it.
I vaguely recall there is a registry setting that can set the time that windows uses for this but unfortunately i didnt write it down

This is EXACTLY what is happening to me, even with the latest build. Has anyone found a proper solution? I have to contradict Steven, it's not Windows at fault, as Media Player Classic does not lose its global media key responsiveness, no matter how heavy the workload is on my PC.

Hey Steven, do you think you can look again at this issue? I mean right now it is by far the worst issue I have with MusicBee, I keep having to restart it, sometimes as often as 9-10 times a day because of this... And as I said, MPC-HC does not ever lose its global media key responsiveness... I've encountered this on three different PCs, two with Windows 10 and one with Windows 7.

Another interesting observation is that custom hotkeys (for ex. ctrl+alt+shift+s) don't seem to get disabled, but the media buttons do... I have them all programmed on my mouse, and unforutnately I don't have a STOP function in my mouse settings, so I used a special key combination. Right now, as I am typing, the media keys (Play/Pause, Next/Previous) don't respond anymore, while the Stop function which has been mapped to the aforementioned combination, does work accordingly.
