Advice Using WASAPI

I have this recurring problem using WASAPI. I leave Musicbee running pretty much the whole day, now, every time I'm browsing the web, and I come across a video (or anything else with sound) that I'd like to play, the volume doesn't work. So I must close Musicbee and re-open the page I was on.

Is there any way around this using WASAPI, maybe a way to change settings, or alternatively, would it maybe not be better to use directsound? To be honest, I don't really know what the difference is, I just remember reading somewhere WASAPI was better.

WASAPI is exclusive. Use DirectSound which actually uses WASAPI in shared mode on vista/7/8.

All right thanks, so it doesn't actually make a difference to the sound quality then...

There may be sound quality in exclusive and shared mode because in shared mode all sound sources are resampled to common settings, but you can set common sound settings to highest level (eg 24bit/96KHz).
