Manually emptying Now Playing isn't hard - CTRL+A and Delete.

I rather like keeping Now Playing, because removal is rather simple, but recovering it after it's removed is not.

I agree it should be a preference.
I wouldn't like it emptying either.

By the way, even if I delete "NP" before exit, the last played song remains in the list on the next launch.
