MusicBee Wishlist / Re: Disable Menu Bar in Caption Area
« on: May 05, 2012, 08:31:18 PM »
No difference, unfortunately:

This wasn't an issue before the menu bar change in last week's beta:

That's why I assumed that it must have been a simple change. If it's not, though, I understand if you'd rather not spend time on it; this is kind of a niche issue, I realize.

I'm using the third-party "Shadow" theme for Windows (here), which requires patching a system files (patcher here). I can vouch for the safety of both of these utilities.

In that case, I would suggest simply removing or reducing the glow. (It's not even used consistently by Microsoft applications in Aero default, so I doubt it would be missed here.)

Perfect! Thanks so much for responding to our feedback. I know your time is limited these says.

Only one small bug to report: when the menu bar is set to auto-hide, the MusicBee caption appears to be a little below-center, and the white glow around the letters is enforced even when the theme doesn't require it. Here's a screenshot (with a Notepad caption for comparison).

Isn't this what the one-star rating is for? Unless I've misunderstood your goal.

One option i am considering is to auto-hide the menu so it only appears when the mouse in the caption bar area (for both skinned and non-skinned borders) - i dont think the menu is so commonly used that it would inconvience doing it this way.
I think this is a fine solution. :)

I'm not as wild about the button idea. To me, the point of not skinning window borders in the first place is to make MusicBee more visually consistent with the rest of Windows. Having any elements in the caption area detracts from this goal. However, a button would certainly be smaller and less conspicuous than the whole menu.

I understand the logic behind this change, but having the menu bar in the caption area is really not appropriate for all Windows themes. On my system, for instance, it looks like this:

I would really appreciate the option to either restore the traditional menu bar, or perhaps to have the new menu bar hidden unless the Alt key is pressed (consistent with Windows Explorer's menu behavior in Vista/7).

General Discussions / Re: So how big is your music library?
« on: April 07, 2012, 05:43:13 PM »
I have a pretty modest library. 4,916 tracks, 15d 3h, 33.6 GB. Sadly, I lost all my "date added" tags when I switched over from iTunes several years ago; it would have been fun to chart the growth of my library over time.

MusicBee can be a tiny bit sluggish at managing everything, but I think that's really my fault for keeping 320 kbps MP3s that I could probably downsize without losing any enjoyment, not to mention the massive album art (2000px+, in some cases) that I've embedded in every file. I'm just very paranoid about data integrity, especially after Windows Media Player - which I don't even use - saw fit to destroy half my collection of "folder.jpg" covers.

I do think the alternating row colors in the song list are a little too subtle right now.
Thanks, could you maybe make the colors between tracks a bit more harsher? So it is easier to see ?
Done, however it will depend on your display settings so results may vary

Looks perfect for me, at least. Thanks for the update!

MusicBee Wishlist / Re: Batch "Mark as Having No Lyrics"?
« on: March 25, 2012, 04:44:57 AM »
You can already do this. Just select the tracks you want. Make sure the tab is set to "selected tracks"  and then right-click inside the tab and select "!mark as having no lyrics"
Sorry, which "tab" are you referring to? I don't see anything like this in either the Edit dialog or the Tag Manager.

EDIT: Nevermind, I see it now. The option appears in the Lyrics tab under "Track Information." Thanks for the tip!

That said, I would still suggest that a checkbox be placed somewhere in the Edit dialog when editing multiple files. The current method is not really intuitive or easy to find, especially if you don't have the Lyrics pane showing in your chosen layout.

MusicBee Wishlist / Batch "Mark as Having No Lyrics"?
« on: March 24, 2012, 07:53:18 PM »
Anyone know of a way to change the lyrics tag on a selection of tracks? I understand why the whole Lyrics tab doesn't show up, since having multiple songs with the same lyrics is rare, but it would be nice to mark a whole instrumental album at once instead of track-by-track.

Sorry but I don't see how this would make sense, since the view is always sorted in some way. What would happen then if you could re-arrange the albums and tracks and then click any column header to for example sort by artist name... then your arrangement would be gone so for this wish to work you would also need some way to save how you dragged your albums and tracks around.

Is there some way you want to have your albums and tracks appear that you can't achieve using a custom sorting?
Well, that's exactly the purpose of a playlist, right?

The problem seems to be that the playlist order (#) column doesn't appear as a sorting option in the Album & Tracks view, so you can't edit the order without switching back to Track Detail.

MusicBee Wishlist / Artist Info Tab in Left Sidebar
« on: March 18, 2012, 08:12:11 PM »
It would be great to have the full-sized Artist Info page as an item in the left sidebar, like this:

This would make it a lot easier to switch to the info tab, without having to either 1) go into Preferences and open it manually, or 2) keep a separate open all the time.

Thanks for considering!

I updated the skin to fix that issue and a couple other things that I noticed while viewing the skin with Windows borders.
Just download the updated file in the first post. Thank you again for pointing that out.
Thanks very much for the fix. Looks perfect now. :)

This is really beautiful. I'm using "Dawn" now, and I agree with the earlier poster who said it would make a pretty great default skin for MusicBee.

I do think the alternating row colors in the song list are a little too subtle right now. I have a glossy LCD laptop screen, and I can't even see them unless I look at my screen from an angle. The "Search" and "Panel Layout" toolbar buttons are also invisible for me, but I gather that's outside your control? I think the other buttons (e.g. New Tab, Back/Forward) are great, though. I like that the overall color scheme is simple and gets rid of unnecessary elements.

A few other (extremely) small quibbles:

- When the left sidebar is collapsed, the playlist-select button is a white triangle. It should probably be either black, or gray like the other toolbar buttons.

- The "up" arrow button on the main scrollbar seems to be a few pixels below the top edge of the column headers. The horizontal gradient also looks a little weird when the right toolbar is open. I'd probably make it a shade or two darker, rather than solid white.

- The corners of the tabs look a little thinner than the sides. They could use a little smoothing out.

Yes, I'm being a total nitpick here, but only because there's nothing else to criticize. It's a gorgeous skin through-and-through. :)
