Skins / Re: Request: A Windows 95 or Windows XP-themed skin
« on: March 23, 2024, 08:02:27 PM »
I think that (years ago) I briefly considered if it would be fun to create a retro-Windows skin.
But when looking at how those old Windows panels and buttons looked, I quickly realised that I would not be able to create something that looked authentic enough.

Especially the '3D' depth effects that you can see in below screenshot that make older Windows panels so recognisable can not be replicated in MusicBee skins:

So I gave up on the idea and never gave it a shot.

Yeah, I figured it might be the case. The Chameleon DNA skin (that you created?) seems like it would work, though. I just need help figuring out what changes what, since I have a hard time telling the difference with some elements when I tried changing their colors.

Skins / Request: A Windows 95 or Windows XP-themed skin

I'm interested in having Windows 95/Windows XP themed skins made to match my desktop, taskbar, and start menu. Ideally, I would like to have the UI match the taskbar/start menu or have the colors match, or both if possible. Whichever option is better or easier to do is fine with me. I would attempt to make one myself, but I don't feel confident I could properly understand how to do so. Thank you, if you're willing to do this.

Here are a couple screenshots of my desktop with Windows 95 theme (I use RetroBar and Open Shell for the taskbar and start menu):

And here's the Windows XP theme:

And here is what I can find on the colors (may not be completely accurate to the original OS colors):

Windows XP:

I have thought about making a custom skin based on Windows XP or Windows 95, but I don't think I'll be able to understand how to do it myself. So I want to learn what I can do to request a custom skin be made.

Questions / What is logarithmic volume scaling and why do people use it?

I've seen it in the Player menu lots of times, but I have no clue what it's for or if it's better to use it over MB's default.

Plugins / Re: LyricsReloaded (Latest)

I'm not sure why, but I can't seem to download the plugin from Google Drive. It no longer shows a download option.
Still unable to?

I can, but I have to download the folder instead of the individual zip files. Before, I could Shift-Click both and right-click, then select the Download option.

Bug Reports / Re: VGMDB plugin crashes/closes MusicBee

Obviously not a MusicBee bug.
Find the topic for the plugin that you are using and post your issue there.

I have, though it seems the most up-to-date version of it still contains the bug (last release was April 2022).

Bug Reports / VGMDB plugin crashes/closes MusicBee

It doesn't happen with every video game soundtrack I try to get art for, but I sometimes get this error and it causes MusicBee to crash or exit for some reason:

MusicBee v3.5.8447.35892D  (Win10.0), 26 Sep 2023 13:51:

System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

   at System.Threading._ThreadPoolWaitCallback.PerformWaitCallback()

I can't quite figure that out, but removing the thumbnail browser and changing the main panel view to Albums works just as good for me since that's organized the way I wanted. Thanks for helping me figure out how to do that!

The heading at the top (where yours shows Album) is a drop-down menu.

I know, but it doesn't give an option to sort by Original Year, at least in the Sort By part. Only in the Group By section, which I've already tried doing custom tags with.

Adding the original year to each album helped, but I then had to make a custom sort "Album Artist/Original Year/Album" for the main panel to organize properly. Is there any way to custom sort the thumbnail browser as well?

The way I typically organize the thumbnail browser is to go by Album, then group by Album Artist and sort by Year (Ascending), and I organize the main panel in much the same way. But the thing that bothers me is that it organizes remastered albums by the year of the remaster instead of the original year, and I can't seem to change that with the custom sorting options I've tried. As you can see in the thumbnail browser, the Badmotorfinger album is a remaster and is sorted by the remaster's year rather than the original year. It would help if someone could help me figure out if I can get it to organize the way I'd like.
