Tips and Tricks / Identifying Songs
« on: September 05, 2011, 05:01:19 PM »
I just found this site, and was so impressed by it I just had to recommend it.
Some of you guys I would guess already know it, for those who don't: midomi.com

Hands off the best song recognition tool I've ever used.
So anyone having some troubles identifying songs with Auto-Tag, definitely, give it a try.

Best of luck,

MusicBee Wishlist / Output switch hotkey
« on: April 25, 2011, 12:00:36 PM »
Steven,

listening to music I have MusicBee's output set to DirectSound > SPDIF.

When I'm done listening and want to switch to something else, say a video, since SPDIF is a bit perfect output and has only one audio session a time, I need to go to preferences menu and switch it back to DirectSound > Speakers to hear anything outside MusicBee.

If it's possible, could you please add an hotkey setting that will switch between the outputs ?

Thanks,
Rotem

Questions / DTS Wav - SACD Rip
« on: April 07, 2011, 05:27:21 PM »
Steven,

I have a wav file that's been ripped from a DTS-SACD. and of course when I don't play it through my system, I hear only static.
I have found that VLC player does play DTS encoded files even when I don't have an external decoder down the line.

It there a way to get MusicBee to play DTS files like that? in a way that the software decodes the DTS and the output is audioable without an external decoder ?

Thanks

MusicBee Wishlist / [IMPLEMENTED] Quality as a track browser filter
« on: March 26, 2011, 12:33:22 PM »
Steven,

Can you please change the sorting of the Quality filter from an alpabatic one to a one that's based on the hierarchy of the different quality levels?

Right now it shows like this:
Fair , High , Highest , Medium , Poor.

It would be great to view it:
Poor , Fair , Medium , High , Highest [and the other way around when descending].

Tips and Tricks / Skinning Guide - Part 5 - Dependent Skins
« on: March 19, 2011, 01:20:39 PM »
Explanation:
Dependent Skins allow your skin to inherit all color, image and settings(?) elements from a parent skin.

Okay.. but what is it good for?
- If you're using a skin you really like but wantt just a small thing changed, using a dependency is the way to go.
- Dependent skins enjoys updates done in the parent skin.

Syntax:
   <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
   <root dependsOn="PARENT SKIN NAME">
   <colours id="Default">
       ELEMENTS GOS HERE
   </colours>
   <images id="Default">
       ELEMENTS GOS HERE
   </images>
   </root>

A Dependent Skin For Example:

Blinghound's Pop Blue
depends on my Pop Pink
Skin File

If you still have any questions about dependent skins, or skins in general, ask away, I'll try and do my best to help.

MusicBee Wishlist / A Way to Eliminate Smaller Artwork
« on: March 15, 2011, 03:35:45 PM »
following my question in the general board:

It would be cool to have a way to get rid of small resolution artworks,
Maybe a search with the ability to set a minimum pixel size, or a way to have minimum size of auto-gathered artwork.

Thanks

Filters are a good solution for a user who needs a division in his files,
Once selected they stay selected after closing the Library tab and even after a restart.
It's as good solution as running a second library,

That's why I think they will be better served in left size panel, where one could see clearly which one is on, and switch between them more easily.

Hope other people might think the same,

Skins / Skinning Guide - Part 3 - The Elements: Color Elements
« on: March 08, 2011, 01:48:43 PM »
Hey guys,

If you just started skinning you might want to check the two previous parts of the guide:
Skinning Guide - Part 1 - The Basics
Skinning Guide - Part 2 - The Elements: Image Elements

Before I begin this part I remind you that if you have any questions about skinning, please address those to me or any member who had already posted skins and may have the experience those answer those questions. if a member can't solve whatever trouble you are having then ask Steven.

PART THREE – THE ELEMENTS - COLOR ELEMENTS
Now the way I'm going to do this, I'm going to post a list of all the current color elements that Steven sent me, and whenever I get some time to work on it I'll update it with a few more pictures and explanations. Because of the sheer volume of the elements If I'll wait till I have time to do them all I'll never get to it. the goal here is to have an image for every element that's a bit tricky to find and explanations for all of them.

Special Thanks to Sarge and Analien who helpd in the making of this guide!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

so here we go:

The part of the interface been fix with that element part [BG, FG, BDR] will always be RED.
I'll take the images with Asylum White skin so it will be clear.

1. <element id="TitlebarActiveForeColour" BG />
    BG:

2. <element id="TitlebarInactiveForeColour" BG />
BG: Same as TitlebarActiveForeColour but will only show when the MusicBee loss focus, meaning it's inactive.

3. <element id="TitlebarColour" BG />

4. <element id="ApplicationBackColour" BG />
    BG: Appers between all panels.

5. <element id="WindowBackColour" BG />
BG: The background color of all windows [ preferences, about, ect. ]

\\MENU BAR
6. <element id="MenuBar.Default" BG FG />
THIS ELEMENT ONLY APPEARS IN SKINS THAT DOESN'T HAVE INTEGRATED MENUS, OR IN SKINS WITH INTEGRATED BUT SKIN BORDERS TURN OFF.
BG: The background color of non-integrated menu.

FG:  The text color of non-integrated menu.

7. <element id="Menu.ParentItem.Highlight" BG FG BDR />

8. <element id="Menu.ParentItem.Pressed" BG FG BDR />

9. <element id="InlineMenuBar.Default" BG FG />

MusicBee Wishlist / Swaping MP3 with FLAC files
« on: February 12, 2011, 06:16:33 PM »
Steven,

I want to start upgrading my library from MP3 files into all FLAC.
I have my songs arranged in a chronological order [Date Added].
Is there a way to make a swap between a mp3 file and a flac one without changing the 'Date added' order?

Right now I have to add the new Flac file to the library and delete the old Mp3 one - and changing the whole order.

Skins / Skinning Guide - Part 2 - The Elements: Image Elements
« on: January 24, 2011, 03:47:43 PM »
Hey guys,

Sorry for the delay, I was busy with the new site and forum lately and didn't got to update the skinning guide.
But as I see it does help people developing more skins for the community I feel I should continue.

Before I begin this part I remind you that if you have any questions about skinning, please address those to me or any member who had already posted skins and may have the experience those answer those questions. if a member can't solve whatever trouble you are having then ask Steven.

PART TWO – THE ELEMENTS - IMAGE ELEMENTS
I've decided starting with the image elements because they are the ones most easily missed when doing a skin and I get asked about those the most.

Image elements differ from the Color Elements, which are fixed with RGB numbers, in that that here you'll need to place an image code within the element.
To generate that code you'll need to open your image file with Base64. you can get it from here: http://www.mediafire.com/?kwxek8bzx8z1s2j.
It will encode the image file to a string, and copy it to your clipboard. then just paste it inside the image element.

IMAGE ELEMENTS:
1. Splash Screen:
    <element id="SplashScreen"> CODE </element>
    - any image will do here. When we're done with the new site, I think I'll post a RAR with the logo and text used there, so anyone who wants to use that will be able to.
    - has 3 pixels on each corner that offer transparency. so I you want a round corners on your splash screen, pixels [0,0 | 0,1 | 1,0] - for top left corner and respectively in the rest of the corners needs to be transparent and saved in PNG format.

2. Border Elements [ FormBorderTop , FormBorderTopRight , FormBorderTopLeft , FormBorderRight , FormBorderLeft ,
    FormBorderBottomRight , FormBorderBottomLeft , FormBorderBottom ]
    Sizes for those are:
       FormBorderTop --------------------------------------------- 28x1 [pixels].
       FormBorderTopRight , FormBorderTopLeft ------------ 28x5.
       FormBorderRight , FormBorderLeft  --------------------- 1x4.
       FormBorderBottomRight , FormBorderBottomLeft ---- 4x4.
       FormBorderBottom  ---------------------------------------- 4x1.

I usually take a screenshot of musicBee with the skin in development that has the interface colors right but borders that needs addressing,
paste it in an image editing software. work it to my liking and then slice it according to the sizes.

if you want rounded Bottom borders, make sure settings element UseRoundWindowBorders is enabled:
Quote
<element id="UseRoundedWindowBorders">true</element>

images can be downloaded from : http://www.mediafire.com/?b6kr7ra1kvda6eo

3. Window Buttons Elements [ FormMaximiseButton , FormMinimiseButton , FormRestoreButton , FormHelpButton , FormCloseButton ]
images can be downloaded from : http://www.mediafire.com/?m3dy8z9mbml4ke5
I usually paste those files on to a screenshot of the skin in development with the border colors right, then work that button layer and slice.

    ADDED AFTER v1.2.4054:
Highlight Window Buttons[ FormMaximiseHighlightButton, FormMinimiseHighlightButton, FormRestoreHighlightButton, FormHelpHighlightButton, FormCloseHighlightButton ]
Note that you must use all of those Highlight elements or none.

4. Last.fm Love icons in main player:
image can be downloaded from : http://www.mediafire.com/?awvab6bwu3i6a9e

    <element id="PlayerLastFmNotLove">CODE</element>

    <element id="PlayerLastFmLove">CODE</element>

5.  Last.fm Love icons in mini player:

Checked disable tick in a disabled checkbox.

    <element id="CheckUnknown">CODE</element>
Never seen this one myself in musicBee but I guess it will appear when some options are ticked and some aren't.

7. Wait Indicator
ELEMENT IS IGNORED AS FOR NOW.

    <element id="WaitIndicator">CODE</element>
This one you can get from http://www.ajaxload.info/#preview. Select INDICATOR from the drop-list, color and background color,
then import to Base64 and paste into your skin.
appears in the status bar whenever a background prosses is running (ripping, looking up tagges and album arts).

note that this icon also appears on the right side panel whenever right clicking an album art and then chossing "Search Internet" unless you'll use the next element:

   <element id="WaitIndicatorArtwork">
appears on the right side panel whenever right clicking an album art and then chossing "Search Internet".

8. Inprogress Indicator
    <element id="InProgressIndicator">CODE</element>

    your skin.

11. Missing Album Art Image
    <element id="NoArtwork">CODE</element>
Will apear when ever a song is missing it's album art.

12. MiniPlayerNowPlaying and MiniPlayerNowPlayingBright

13. <element id="AzJump">CODE</element>
effects the little AZ icon in the main panel field columes.
