Thanks.
It's similar to a Halloween-themed skin I've been trying to get perfect, but have been unsatisfied with.
I might end up using that one instead during October.

Special skins for the holidays! Love it.  8)

Glad you've got things sorted out.
As an aside, what is the name of the skin you're using?

Hey Mr. Boom, the skin is Jistme the Nightbee. When I first found MusicBee, I was trying to customize a look and layout similar to my old Winamp layout, since that was what I was used to. It's a little busy but does just what I want it to. I've grown to love MB even more than Winamp.

My guess would be that you are selecting only a single track before invoking the Album Auto-Tagger (which means that any changes applied will only effect that one track - although your screenshot shows that there are no changes due). Try selecting all the tracks of one album and then using the auto-tagger.

Be careful though - the track in your screenshot appears to already be incorrectly tagged, having a filename 'Colloseum II - Electric Savage - 02 - All Skin And Bone.xxx' and being tagged with the title 'Put It This Way'. (Also note the time discrepancy.)

THANK YOU! You were correct, I was originally only highlighting one track in MB. Selecting all the tracks in the album worked perfectly!

So for the 300 or so that have actual tag issues, I am trying to use the auto-tag feature for the first time.

I located the artist/album and all the info looks right, but when I hit APPLY it does not make the changes to the actual files on my drive. What am I doing wrong? Thanks!

Thanks everybody!!! I got 17,000 down to 300 that appear to have actual tag issues, which I'm working on now. Appreciate all the help!  ;D

Typically files that are hidden and start with an underscore on Mac are similar to what would be in the recycle bin in Windows. They are placeholders for restoring the original if you choose in MacOS.

That said, I would use a filter to find as many of these as possible, and check to see if the remaining unhidden versions are valid audio files. Only if yes would I get rid of them.

Better yet, maybe after you find all of these tracks you can move them to a separate drive, then check to see afterwards if all remaining tracks play as you expect. Then you can clean up that other drive.

Thanks. Good advice. I'm on PC and have been checking them this way in small batches and so far the removal or deletion of the hidden ._ files has no effect on the main unhidden files and they are playing just fine.

My music drive was bought new and has only been used on my PC, but some of the files may have been copied over from a drive that had been used previously on a Mac.

So far so good!

So, I have 17,000 of these hidden files? How do I get rid of them? At 10 songs per album, that would be roughly 1700 separate album folders. PLEASE tell me there's an easy way to deal with this?
It will depend on how strict MusicBee is with handling files it can't play, but because it does at least know about them you might be able to Right-click > Delete them from within MusicBee itself.

Thanks again Zak!!  So far this seems to be working!!  I have only done a handful at a time as a test, but each time it appears to be deleting the troublesome hidden files, with no effect on the main files.   :)

Just as an aside, don't consider Windows File Explorer as an authoritative tagging tool of any kind.  MB's Tag Inspector is what was pointing to the ultimate problem here as discovered later down the thread.

Thanks. While my music collection is vast, my tech knowledge is not. I didn't even know what MB Tag Inspector was until this thread. Thanks to all the people in the forum, I'm learning more about how to navigate and troubleshoot a little better in the future!

Thanks! I will test a few files with this method. Fingers crossed.

What the heck are all those hidden files?
Those files are created to store metadata in macOS. Has your drive ever been plugged into a Mac perchance?

No. I bought the drive brand new and it has only been used on my PC with Windows 10.

That said, some of the files on my drive (I have no idea how many) were copied from a drive (formatted exFat) that had been used on a friend's Mac. Would that cause the issue?

Clearly ._05 and 05 are not the same file.  I think you need to do a "Show Hidden Files" and you'll have your answer.

Wow!  Yes, when I clicked "hidden files" the folder has a duplicate set of grayed out hidden files. What the heck are all those hidden files? So, I have 17,000 of these hidden files? As requested, here is a link to 3 of the sample files:

Thanks again!

Here's another example. MB Tag Inspector gives same error messages as above.

Another weird thing is in MB it says the file name is "._05..." and in File Explorer it is just "05"

Hope this helps solve the mystery?

I finally figured out how to open the file in MB  Editor and the first panel shows nothing in the Tags tab. When I click the Tag Inspector tag, it says Unexpected Error Occurred and says "File is not a Flac file" although it shows as Flac in File Explorer and the file plays fine (if I click to play it anywhere except from the Unknown section).

This is one of the 17K files displaying as Unknown Bitrate in MB:

15
Display the file url in the main panel Tracks view or open one file in the tag editor and get the url from the properties tab.
Then check the file in windows explorer. I expect you will find its a sub-folder of the real files and has a 0 byte file for every real file in the parent folder
Alternatively, right-click > Search > Locate in Windows Explorer to see the original file.

This?
