Questions / Best Sound Device Settings for Stability?
« on: February 21, 2022, 05:53:26 PM »
Hi,
Would someone kindly enlighten me as to the different choices for sound driver settings?
My choices are DirectSound and WASAPI (I understand the difference between shared and exclusive).  Then, I can select the Primary Sound Driver or the Speakers directly (maybe like direct access to the speakers?  without going through Windows?).  Also, with DirectSound I have a checkbox for 32 bit sound (I assume WASAPI forces 64 bit sound?)
Which choices are probably best?  I have a couple apps that sometimes, when I start them, MB closes and one app that ALWAYS sends MB packing (the GeForce Experience app that checks for game and driver updates).  It's not a big problem but it just got me thinking that I would like to understand a little more about the audio settings.

FWIW, at home, on my desktop, I have an ASIO audio interface and don't recall ever having MB quit on me.  Now, I am away from home on a laptop and MB has quit on me a few times while opening some things.
Thanks for any help.

Before clicking to deselect a track for tagging....
Then, after deselecting a track, it looks like...
This...

But, I noticed, that I had the Album Tagger window at its smallest vertical size when it was doing this behavior.  If I enlarged it a little bit, it was fine.
So, it seems to only happen if the tagger window is at its smallest vertical size.  Making it bigger (even if the tracks still don't all fit and a scroll bar is present), seems to cure the display error.  I am on a 4K display with 150% scaling though, so that might be part of the problem.

EDIT:  Ok, so I switched my display to 100% scaling and the problem is gone, even with the window at the smallest size.  So, easy workaround, even with 4K and scaling is to make sure the window is enlarged a little bit.  Something about the minimum size causes the tracks to display improperly.

Bug Reports / Album Auto - Tag Repeats Tracks 10 and Higher as Track 9
« on: January 24, 2022, 10:44:43 PM »
If I use Album Auto Tag on an album with 10 tracks or more, the 9th track is repeated in place of tracks 10 and above.  But if I deselect one of the tracks for tagging, it corrects the repeated tracks.  Except, it often leaves off the last track.  But if I click Apply, it does actually tag the last (unshown) track.  I have tested it with many albums and it seems to always happen with 10 or more tracks.  I am using version 3.4.8033.
Anyone else getting this behavior?

On the tab for the SD card, in the settings, at the bottom, there are options for the art. Have you checked those?

I am fairly sure MusicBee did exactly what you told it to do….

Thank you, I got it to work.  I did look in the Auto Playlists but didn't realize the "Playlist" was one of the criteria choices (It looked like all tags when I was perusing...).

Questions / Filter Out Of Library Songs That Are Already On A Playlist?
« on: January 11, 2022, 09:59:10 PM »
Hi,
I have my entire Library.  Then I have about 3/4 of it on a playlist to sync to a USB drive for the vehicle.
I want to filter what is already on the playlist out of my music library in order to see what is NOT on the playlist.
Any way to do this?

One cause could be if you have files from different albums in the same folder and store the art in that folder as folder.jpg.

Questions / Re: Volume Analysis Questions
« on: January 06, 2022, 09:38:08 PM »
Another question...
When I sync to a USB drive and select "Level Volume", it appears that it levels the files to the default or "zero" point (i.e. as if I had the slider at zero for volume analysis).
I did a test where I used volume analysis on an album with the slider at +5 dB then synced to the drive using "Level Volume" and then examined the resulting file and it has the same gain as without the +5 dB Volume Analysis adjustment.
So, does the "Level Volume" setting just ignore the replaygain tags and set the standard target volume?  (-18 LUFS I believe..)

The USB drive is for my vehicle, which does NOT use replaygain tags or have an adjustable pre-amp setting.  So, If I level the volume when syncing to the USB drive, in the vehicle, the USB drive songs are noticeably quieter than the radio.

Questions / Volume Analysis Questions
« on: January 05, 2022, 11:01:31 PM »
I have seen a couple of times when the Volume Analysis gives me the warning that the replay with the replay gain values applied would cause clipping but in the file listing status window, all the files say "OK".  Sometimes it does identify the file with clipping and the clipping amount.
Just trying to learn more about the readout.  Maybe it is an Album Gain vs. Track Gain thing?
Or is there something I am misunderstanding when I get the clipping warning pop-up  window but all the files say "OK" in the status column?

There is an option to also move remaining non-media files.  Perhaps you didn't have it checked before?

My guess is that the E: drive has something to do with the way Windows handles and names removable drives since the E: drive could change alot but your are right, that discussion is beyond the scope of this thread.
I essentially handled it in the way you suggest (by deleting all of them) by starting a fresh back folder which has no folder.jpg files yet.  I uninstalled WMP so it can't create more (although I read one article that Windows may do this on its own without WMP even being opened but this may be going away with Windows 11 not using folder.jpg files anymore?).  I also set Musicbee to save all the art as folder.jpg so there is already one in every folder.  Musicbee does warn that these could be overwritten by Windows or WMP, in which case I have just deleted the folder where I want the backup to save and let Musicbee rewrite all the files in that folder during the backup.  Again, I uninstalled WMP so hopefully won't get anymore created...

But, anyway, I think you are right that the easiest way is to just delete the offending folder so musicbee can do it's job during the backup.

Thanks for the reply and help.
I actually found that article when I was trying to sort out the problem.  One of the problems I had was the backup was on an external USB drive and the DOS prompts wouldn't seem to let me change the drive to the E: drive.  I actually used to be pretty handy in MS DOS back in those days but couldn't get it to work.
I tried
CD E:\
CD E:  (which would echo back E:\ but the prompt was still showing me on the C drive in the users folder)
even tried CD.. to see if I could back out far enough, etc.

I did find some mentions that all of the hidden folder files may be going away or no longer in use with Windows 11 (but pre-existing ones are still there?), which had some people upset because they like the contents preview thumbnails for the folders.  Well, no worries because we know it will probably change again.
