MusicBee Wishlist / Re: Seperate/Categorize Albums by Type
« on: January 18, 2021, 01:18:44 PM »
Thanks! Not sure how I missed that. I've been using groupings for things like isolating bonus tracks, box set / deluxe edition section headers, etc. I setup a new tag and was able to get it up in running in no time. Ah MusicBee - Is there anything you can't do?

Thanks again!

MusicBee Wishlist / Seperate/Categorize Albums by Type
« on: January 18, 2021, 02:14:46 AM »
I like how some services / apps separate albums by type:
- Album
- EP
- Single
- Live
- Compilation
- Box Set
- Bootleg
- Appears On

It would be great if MusicBee was able to do this as well. I think it might require a new tag to implement but if you are a big fan of a few older artists, as I am, I expect you will quickly find that their catalogue becomes a bit of a mess otherwise - see Blondie, Radiohead, Bowie, U2, Kiss, etc...

Very nice! I was just trying to figure out if I could rename the "Publisher" tag on the editor to "Copyright" and have it read the copyright tag instead.

MusicBee Wishlist / Re: Ability to Add PDFs to Library

Apple and Qobuz both handled differently and both appear to work:

Apple allows for multiple booklets, perhaps to be included with groupings or subfolders (disc1, etc):

Qobuz, on the other hand, include an icon along with the album info (I couldn't find an image but here is a url):
https://play.qobuz.com/album/ys96i2ayewnpa

Both have their pros and cons. I imagine the qobuz approach would be easier to implement. The iTunes approach, on the other hand, I believe, offers more flexibility - ie booklets tied to groupings, multiple booklets tied to an album/box set, etc... the iTunes approach would also allow you to potentially manage the file name, the same track filenames are managed

I am guessing the intended purpose is to be able to quickly open booklets of releases?

If so, more often those will not be pdf's but image files containing scanned pages.
Or there can be several pdf's, or a mixture of pdf's and jpg's.

So I am not sure if a solution should be restricted to the pdf filetype.
Perhaps a shortcut to open a folder named 'booklet' (or something) if present and residing in the same folder as the music files would work better?

Most of my booklets are PDF (Qobuz's, HDTracks and iTunes all use the format, if I am not mistaken.) That said I think you make a good point. There are many booklets that are available via discogs, etc, that are collections of lose scanned images. It sounds almost like two unique asks...

+1, I have a growing number of PDFs  associated with my library

I also merged the half dozen or so other topics to this effect.

Thanks psychoadept!

MusicBee Wishlist / Read Only Tags
« on: January 11, 2021, 07:33:45 PM »
It would be nice to have the ability to display tags like UPC, ISRC, etc. as read only - knowing they won't accidently be changed or deleted. I can't imagine ever wanting to alter some tags. That said, if the need for change arises I am good with it be slightly awkward (using a 3rd party editor or having to change the field settings.)

Thanks

MusicBee Wishlist / Customize Now Playing Track Details
« on: January 11, 2021, 07:28:35 PM »
Allow the now playing track details that appear around the progress bar in the player controls to be customized. While we have the ability to customize them in multi-line view it would be nice to be able to tweak them when displayed as a single view - I prefer <title> - <artist>, for eg.

When showing tracks directly below an album it would be nice to have more room to play with:

- The option to show a footer would be nice for metadata like copyright, organization, track count, comment(s), replayGain, etc.
- Additional sub-headers would also be nice. right now I am using bullets to separate multiple fields - date, genre, track count, running time, alerts (metadata checks I run), etc. Having the ability to spread this info over multiple lines would make it a far more readable/flexible view for me.

Thanks

I have several pdf booklets that go unused because I forget I have them. Displaying them with an album (as the online service providers do) would be awesome! I'd be good with a simple link that launches a 3rd party viewer, it's more about knowing they are available when I am looking at/listening to an album. Of note: there are a few post similar to this one, which I think minimizes the requests (appear smaller than they would collectively). A quick search for "PDF" brings up at least 3 other similar feature requests.
