MusicBee Wishlist / Re: Linux?
« on: November 25, 2021, 07:16:48 PM »
I assumed (and I hope) G-Power was only thinking out loud, contemplating if he could create something himself.
(without any need of bothering Steven)

Yes, I'm thinking out loud, here. Making suggestions and proposing ideas without really calculating the costs and consequences. But even if I weren't just thinking aloud, I wouldn't see any harm done in making suggestions and proposing ideas. The developer has no obligations to read or care about what I think. I'm simply putting out my ideas with no intention to bother anyone rather than just trying to find solutions to bring native support to MB for Linux, simply. That's why I'm using the MB forum without addressing anyone in particular, rather than only those who are interested in the issue or have their word to say against it, which is absolutely fine as well.
Of course, working with closed-source binaries is definitely a challenge, but I think it's the best option, since I don't believe Steven is interested in getting into something he's not familiar with, and I absolutely understand his position. I myself actually have a similar attitude/opinion regarding Mac... I'm not interested in it and probably will never be, because it just doesn't bring me anything I need and don't have with Linux and Windows, so I don't see it being worth learning.
I am currently doing research regarding .NET frameworks for Linux and how to run a .NET-based application over a framework without rebuilding it, given that I don't have the source. If ever I find any solutions or have any further ideas, I will be placing those in a new thread regarding this specific issue (as hiccup so kindly suggested). Thank you all for your input.
God bless.

Why didn't I think of this earlier? How about using a .NET framework for Linux? Just make it part of the installer, according to the .NET license, and there you go! This will certainly require some modifications, but won't be such a pain as to rewrite the whole program!

I must say I find it a bit surprising that it seems that you have seen the 'why is MusicBee not open-source' thread, but didn't learn from it that MB has a single developer, and what the reasons are for it not being open-source.

LOL. I had just scrollen through it. Now that I took the time to actually read the first few posts it is obvious. Excuse me for my negligence, LOL. When I read on a screen it's much more difficult to pay attention than with a book.
Pax.

I suggest you look at this from the FAQ

This answer my question perfectly. I didn't know a big part of it was .NET. Given this it is unreasonable to ask for such adjustments, if we could even dare call them adjustments.
I guess I'll be checking out other options!

Cheers, and peace be on you.

MusicBee Wishlist / Linux?
« on: November 12, 2021, 04:39:47 PM »
MusicBee is THE best music library manager out there. Sad to have to break up with it for switching OS.
Now I noticed making MusicBee open-source is something the developers are uncomfortable with, and I respect that, whatever the reason for it is. I don't see any reason for annoying anyone with this.
I am currently learning to code and am finishing up high school with the intention to study in system engineering. Because of this I started learning to code in a few different languages. What does it take to be part of the developer team? I am interested in investing time and effort to bring MusicBee to the Linux community.
I'm currently interested in having it run on Debian, though I would like to make it accessible for nearly all Linux distros, if possible.
Thank you.

Questions / Re: Track Numbers for Videos Inside "Album"?
« on: June 16, 2021, 01:21:03 PM »
Also, I am not sure how the concept of 'album' that you mention would translate to video files.
What is the format of your video files? What sort of metadata do they contain that MusicBee could make use of?

The equivalent of the album field for audio is the "series name" field for videos.

Disclaimer: personally I only use MusicBee for audio, so I have no useful insights or opinions or how it can be uses for video.
Maybe sort by title?
001 conference call 1
002 conference call 2

I'm not that picky. Up to now, your solution sounds pretty good, honestly... 001 Title, 002 Title, etc. I like it. Simple and straightforward. The only tweak I had to go do was change the sorting criteria via "Sort by > Define custom sorting" and then having MB sort video tracks in the following order: Album Artist / Album / Title. I'm not sure how they were sorted at first, but it looked pretty random to me. And it changed every time I refreshed MB, which is strange. But now it works.

It did the trick. Thanks for your help.

Questions / Track Numbers for Videos Inside "Album"?
« on: June 15, 2021, 09:25:46 PM »
I just managed to make my video library work, thanks to Steven's help: thread
Now I have an "album" inside which are contained a series of videos from a virtual conference. I would like for these videos to show up in order, like music tracks show up in order in an album, but I don't see the "track number" option anywhere in the tagging section. I thought of using the "episode" field, but that doesn't work; the videos still don't appear in order...
Thank you in advance. :)

Questions / Re: Is "Include Videos" Supposed to Work?

By default, the Video node doesnt show. Tick it in Preferences/ Layout(1)/ navigator
Sorry for not replying to this earlier... I didn't hit the "Notify" button.
This answers my question perfectly. Very appreciated. :)
Cheers.

Questions / Is "Include Videos" Supposed to Work?
« on: May 16, 2021, 09:23:28 PM »
I've made a quick search on the MusicBee forum and found that there used to be a plug-in that supported organising video files inside MusicBee, and that it wasn't supported anymore.
What I'm wondering is why there's still an "Include Videos" option in the preferences panel, along with options for the external video player. Am I missing out on something? 'Cause, if it's possible, I'd be interested in being able to organise my music and videos all in the same place (MusicBee, 'cause it's like the third coolest app ever, after FL Studio and DuoLingo, LOL). Additionally, having lyrics videos for some of my music would be sick too.
Peace all.

Oh yes. I see.
We'll see what I manage to do with the little code I know... Maybe in one or two years I'll manage to make something like that work.
By the way, if a user modifies the API, is Steven open to reviewing it?

Just my two cents.

Considering that, I totally agree with you. Plus I agree that MB should be kept lightweight, too.
But it would be nice as a plug-in, though, so people who want it can add it. Do you think a plug-in could have that much flexibility within MusicBee, or is that type of technology too limited for what I'm looking for (is it only possible when coded into the application source)? Or maybe we could make it into an extension.

General Discussions / Auto DJ Improvement Ideas
« on: April 19, 2021, 06:43:17 PM »
Imagine if MusicBee could use the tempo and Camelot/key values to actually mix songs.
Now I know that Mixxx's Auto-DJ can do exactly that, but having it all within MusicBee would be even more convenient.
Also one could customise the "Camelot value distance allowed" value. For example, tonalities that are too far apart for some might be acceptable for others.
Additionally, one could also modify the BPM distance value allowed, to avoid having songs which are abnormally stretched to fit the BPM.
Also, MusicBee could recognise that a song that is 87 BPM should be stretched to 90 BPM to suit a 180 BPM target value, instead of making it more than twice as fast.
I'm still just learning how to code for now, so these are just ideas which came to me but are far from reality as far as I'm concerned. 😶

Tips and Tricks / Re: How to change MusicBee icon (fastest way)
« on: March 11, 2021, 04:56:47 PM »
I figured it out.
• Delete the icon you're using at the moment.
• Restart MusicBee.
• Restore the icon from your bin.
• Hello, default icon.

Maybe I'm missing something here but MB's icon can already be changed. Preferences > General > Select Icon.

Know of a way to change it back to default? I messed with it but it seems to me that the default icon is not in the same directory. It looks like it's embedded inside the EXE file.
