Questions / After dragging *.mp3 from FileExplorer into Playlist "Date added" column empty?

I have a playlist. and removed all currently assigned MP3 songs from it.

It is empty now.

Now I drag & drop approx 50 MP3 files form FileExplorer onto this empty playlist.
Yes, all songs are added and can be played by double click on them, BUT the column "Date Added" is empty.

I would have expected that at least the current timestamp is filled it.

Or (a bit smarter): the date when these MP3 files were added the first time (=In previously playlist) should be retrieved from Library.

How can I tell MB to fill column "Date added"?

By the way: In all other playlists the column is normally filled.

I setup up to 10 playlists until now including a rather complicated auto-playlist.

is there a way to export these (at least one by one9 playlist definitions into a text file?

In which file are these Playlist definitions (not the song titles which they contain) stored?

I am NOT switching the tab. I am still in tab "Playlists". So according to your answer the search pattern should be kept.
But it doesn't.

Thats why I remember from the past too.

But I must have changed accidentally some settings.

Any other suggestion?

I have multiple playlists.

Now when I enter a search pattern in the search entry field at the top it works.

But when I click on another Playlist (read: when I switch to another playlist) then the current search pattern is (SOMETIMES) not kept but another old, search word from the past is shown.

How can I force MB to use the most recent search pattern in ALL playlists?

When I open "Music Explorer" and click on your suggested sub-sub-menu nothing happens

When I open a new tab I miss an entry "Library Explorer"

When I started recently MB a popup appeared:

"The follwoing files no longer exists at their expected location - remove them from the library?"

I clicked "NO" button to check the problem at a later time.

Now I have time to check the situation.
But when I launch MB again the popup does not appear again.
It seems to me that MB show conflicts only 1 time.

How can I tell MB to re-check the library for non-existing files?

MusicBee Wishlist / Split option: Let users disable MB context menus but enable file associations

Currently MusicBee allows only enabling context menus AND file associations or both NOT.

I would like to disable context menus but allow file associations.
So when I double click *.mp3 file it should be played in MB.

Can this feature split be added in options dialog in next version.

Ok, I played around for a while with tools like ShellMenuView and others.

Yes I can temporarily disable Musicbee context menus.
But when I install a new version or under other circumstances MusicBee automatically re-enables these Context menus.

In ShellMenuView some of them cannot even be disabled

These entries are annoying.
Is it really too difficult to add a simple stupid new option to MusicBees configuration to allow disabling context menus FOREVER (and keep *.mp3 associations for double clicking)?

Is there an official feature request email address?

My bad... Save your screen as a "View" (it even says, and I even wrote "display using view.") 🤦🏿‍♂️ (It's still good to save both your Layouts and Views, though. I use the same name for each.)

So, what you want to do is set up your Layout and View, then click the Layout-looking button to the left of the search bar at the top of the screen.
Click Main Panel -> Custom Views -> Copy Current View Settings to...

Then it'll be available in the "Edit PlaylistType" drop-down list.

Ok, thank you.....but the problem is still open.

Yes, I created now a customview from currently selected playlist with MANUAL sorting. This custom view is saved and selected  in Playlist Settings of the target Playlist (see attached snapshot).

Now I switch over to another playlist and select a different sorting with Artist-Title. I play some songs.
After that I switch back to my first Playlist and...... the sort order has changed from "Manual" to "Artist-Title" (just as the second playlist).
From what you said the playlist should always pay attention to the "display using view" from its own playlist settings
But this is not the case.

It seems to me that the sort order is NOT part of the custom view definition.
When I look at the custom View XML file (see below) then I cannot find an element similar to

So is the sort order really a part of a custom view?

Thank you for explaining this feature.
However there is still a problem:

Pls follow the steps below:
1. I mark a certain playlist
2. I right click on "Playlists" tab and select the previously Custom Layout (= with Manual Sort order!). See attached snapshot 1
3. I mark another playlist
4. I right click on playlist column header and select another sort order (e.g.Artist-Title)
5. I switch back and selected again the playlist from step 1
The previously assigned Custom layout was overwritten by the sort order I assigned to Playlist Layout sort order from  step 4

Thats bad.

It seems to me that selecting a custom Layout is global for all Playlist
I want a certain Sort Order ("Manual") for only one certain Playlist.
This Sort order should be kept regardless of which sort order I specify later for other playlists.
When I revert back to the special playlist then automatically Manual sort order should be active

I expected a layout/sort order definition per playlist not via "Playlists" tab but as on option in Preferences dialog of this playlist X.
But when I go into such a Preferences dialog of Playlist X my custom Layout does not appear (see attached snapshot 2)

So whats wrong?

Ok, user scan select the sort method for a Playlist by right click on the Playlist column header and select the method.
Unfortunately this seems to be a global setting for ALL Playlists

I need a way to assign different sort method to different Playlists.
Having to switch it always manually when I switch Playlist is on the long-term tedious and unnecessary.

So is there a way to assign the sort method to a Playlist (different from the default)?

Your relationship number<--->stars is NOT consistent

What I found out is the following assignments:

1 point = 1 star
64 points = 2 stars
128 points = 3 stars
196 points = 4 stars
255 points = 5 stars

Hmm I can't figure out the underlying formula.
Lets assume for example

points = (stars * 64) - 64

Then the point values must be

0 - 64 -128 - 192 - 256

whats is different from the observed value points stored by MusicBee

Even if I apply a "special" rule that the minimum must be 1 and the maximum must be 255 the
192 value does not fit into this scheme. Why does Musicbee use 196 for FOUR stars and not 192?

So whats the exact formula to convert the MusicBee value to stars an vice versa?

Questions / Deny addiing duplicate tracks always without prompt?

For some week I collect new songs (*.mp3) on various devices like smartphone, notebook and desktop computer.
Then I merge/copy them into one certain music folder which contains meanwhile some hundred files.
Now I want to add the new files to an existing playlist in MB.

In order not to have remember the filename of all new files or to copy them step by step I want to
mark ALL files from that folder and drag & drop them onto the playlist.
Existing song files should be ignored and only new files added.

Now at this point always a prompt appears "Duplicate tracks detected - do you want to add the tracks to this playlist"
I click NO.
Unfortunately in the lower left corner of the dialog only one of two necessary checkboxes appear:
 "always allow without asking"

I miss "always deny without asking". Alternatively the meaning of the checkbox could be changed to "always remember next button click without asking"
to cover both variants in one checkbox.

Or is there possibly a preference for this?

Questions / Leave checkmark column unchecked (=default) when adding new song?

I show the checkmark column (for private purposes).

Unfortunately when I add a new song (by drag & drop) the checkmark in the song line is always automatically set/enabled.
Can I somehow tell MB leave this column empty by default?
