Questions / Re: Why would this album not merge?
« on: May 23, 2023, 10:08:02 PM »
There are about 1000 metadata fields in musicbee. Which should I be checking? I confirmed the Path is the same for all files in MB

With the setting "files for each album are organised in their own folder", the only metadata fields that could interfere are those selected in the "Sort by" and "Group by" menus.

I have tried to reproduce the behaviour with a test album after applying your settings (files for each album are organised in their own folder, sort by: date added, group by: no grouping), to no avail, even by shifting manually the "date added" by a year for a file of the test album.

My MB version is 3.5.8540 P.

I could not agree more with hiccup.

When albums are defined by the folder, even files with different metadata but in the same folder will show as one album (in that case, MB shows the Album name and Album Artist name stored in the first track). But if for example the tracks are subdivided into 2 folders (even located in the same parent folder), they are treated as belonging to different albums.

For checking purposes, could you do the following?
  • switch to view "Album and Tracks" (and select "detailed list" if needed in its "Customise Panel..." menu)
  • add "Path" to the displayed fields, and widen the column to show the full path
  • check that the path is identical for all the concerned tracks

Questions / Re: Play Count and portable music bee
« on: May 20, 2023, 10:00:42 AM »
Hello,
The play count is specific to MusicBee (MB does not know how many times a track has been read by other players).
It is thus stored in MB's folder tree (most probably in the main library file, MusicBeeLibrary.mbl), not outside it.

Questions / Re: Can MB 3.5 sort/group multi-disc tracs vertically?
« on: May 17, 2023, 12:12:22 PM »
No problem, it's completely forgiven. :)

Well you're right, there are indeed columns in "Album and Tracks" (compact grid): with my settings (two browsers to the left of the main panel), there was not enough room to split in 2 columns.

As for a future wishlist item, don't give up hope...

Create an auto-playlist with the following conditions:

match all the following rules:
Path / starts with / (your folder)
Playlist / is not / (your static playlist)

Hello heroclix,

You asked the same question 2 years ago, comparing the behaviour in MB 3.0 vs. 3.4:
https://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=34997

Unfortunately for you, MB 3.5 separates discs the same way as in 3.4.

I have also tried myself, after reading the suggestions proposed in 2021:
  • In view 'Album Covers' (= 'Albums'), MB will always separate discs with a blank line across all the columns, even if the disc number is not displayed, thus whatever the sub-grouping header you set (either null, or anything that does not include the disc number).
  • In view 'Album and Tracks', you can of course tick option 'do not separate discs', but here the track list cannot be split into several columns.

I suggest that you add the topic to the wishlist.

Questions / Re: Keeping Music Offline
« on: May 15, 2023, 06:03:34 PM »
Hello Vonsworld,
As long as the external drive is not included in the monitored folders, its content will be kept in the library.

9
If MusicBee initially scanned folders that you no longer want to be included in your library, you have two possibilities.

Option A
  • Keep the unwanted folders in the list of monitored folders.
  • As frankz proposed, move those folders or their content to another location (not included in the monitored folders), or rename the folder names (by appending a suffix such as .EXCLUDE, for example).
  • Rescan the monitored folders.
-> All the unwanted tracks will be removed from your library.
  • Afterwards, you can remove the unwanted folders from the list of monitored folders and, if needed, move back the audio tracks to their original locations (or reset the original folder names).

Option B
  • Remove the unwanted folders from the list of monitored folders.
  • In the main panel, select view "Tracks"
  • Add "Path" to the displayed fields and sort on it.
  • Select the tracks of the unwanted folders and delete them. After hitting [Del], make sure you select "Delete from library only".

Questions / Re: Stupid Question: where is MB installed?
« on: May 07, 2023, 01:03:25 PM »
good thought: but does not work for MB.
i checked several running apps - it works for most, but does NOT work for MB and a messging app Zalo. option foro both Properties and fFile Location are greyed out as such

I've noticed greyed out options too for some programs having subtasks,
but in thoses cases, simply click on the '>' on the left, then right-click on a subtask.

In Windows 10, there's a simple way to find the location of MusicBee (or any program):
* Start MusicBee
* Open the Task Manager (shortcut [Ctrl]+[Shift]+[Esc])
* In tab 'Processes', right-click on MusicBee
* Select 'Open file location'

Questions / Re: tRACKS REMOVE FROM LIST AFTER PLAYBACK
« on: May 01, 2023, 05:57:32 PM »
Do you wish to:
  • remove the physical file?
  • remove the file's reference from the Now Playing list?
  • remove the file's reference from all the playlists that include it?

Could you reword the sentence into a precise question?
Do you wish to report an issue or ask how to do something?

Questions / Re: playlits disappearing
« on: May 01, 2023, 12:45:17 PM »
hello, i use MB 3.5.8442 P

recently some playlists have disappeared while others have been modified without my intervention (the songs in the playlist is different from what i included in the playlist). in one instance, this happened after MB crashed. Other times, i am not sure what may have caused it. would you have any suggestion?

Hello Fabio,
Without any precise errog message, it's hard to tell what caused the issue.
Have you checked if something is recorded at the bottom of MusicBee's error log? (Main menu -> Help -> Support -> View error log)

As for recovering the missing playlists:
if they aren't in the bin and you don't have a backup, you could try a tool such as "recuva" (free software by Piriform).

also, i save the playlist in the library folder, inside the folder of a specific library ( as T:\MusicBee\Library\Rock\). is this a reasonable thing to do?

thanks
You are free to keep them where you wish, it's just a matter of taste and convenience.

As for me, I also use the portable version and regularly back up the whole content of MusicBee's folder tree, as well as my music collection. One is never safe from a crash.
