Questions / Re: How to group different album artists as one
« on: June 17, 2021, 12:35:44 AM »
I messed around with getting the sorting to display as album artist>album year (descending) using sub-groups but it was still jumbled up as far as I could figure it.  It's a little confusing how there is a difference between adding a sort as value directly to a tag, and the 'enable custom sort values' option in the preferences.  I guess the latter is only written to the MusicBee database.  Using filters may be the way to go here and seems easier.

FWIW the scroll wheel doesn't work under the Preferences>Sorting/Grouping/enable custom sort values...>artists window.

Thanks

Questions / Re: How to group different album artists as one

In the thumbnail explorer I am now listing by 'other tags>sort album artist' which is working the I want, however in the main panel it's not grouping the right way.

I want to have it grouped by album artist, then sorted by year (descending) per album artist  Unfortunately, that splits up the groups so it's listed like so:

Clint Mansell (albums in 2021)
Clint Mansell & Kevin Kliner (albums in 2020)
Clint Mansell (all albums 2020 and prior)

I don't want album artist to be split into two groups but can't figure out the sort settings for that to work.  I've figured out how to group different album artists together but am stuck on this part.  Help!

Questions / How to group different album artists as one
« on: June 16, 2021, 09:50:46 PM »
Can someone please explain how to group different album artists as a single album artist?  I can't use the artist tag because I sort by album artist, using the thumbnail explorer and grouped this way in the main panel.

For example, I would like album artist 'Campfire Songs' to be grouped with album artist 'Animal Collective', as that was an early name of the band.  Sorting by this tag simply places it underneath Animal Collective, but I'm trying to group it all as one, not two adjacent, separate groups.

What I want is to see both album artists listed in the main panel when I select Animal Collective from the thumbnail explorer.

Any ideas?

In the Navigator panel, the built-in Auto DJ playlist is listed under 'Playlists'.  Shouldn't this then be listed in the Playlist Directory panel as well?  The purpose for me is to have these default playlists listed under the Playlist Directory panel and not needing the Navigator at all as I have it hidden in my set up.

The reason for Auto DJ to be listed in the Playlist Directory panel is apparent; it is already listed in the Navigator under 'Playlists'.  Arguably the default Inbox and History playlists should be listed here as well.

Possible bug or user error?

Clint Mansell & Clint Walsh
Clint Mansell & Kevin Kiner

Both of these were changed to a custom sort value for album artist of 'Clint Mansell' so it would be grouped with all his other albums.

However this change is not being reflected in the thumbnail explorer / column browser.  It still lists three different album artists.  When I went again into the tag editor to double-check, these fields (under the 'Sorting' page) weren't checked even though the status bar states these tags were updated and external tag editors confirm it was.  When I check the custom sort values in the Preferences>Sorting/Grouping page, everything is there (although this is for field 'Artists' so I'm not sure that's relevant).

Checking 'enable custom sorting' makes no difference.  Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug?

Currently, when a track is marked as rating = Love, viewing the track with the built-in tag editor does not display this rating.

Request is to display a 'Love' rating in tag editor, when ratings are being saved in music file.

When viewing the track with an external tag editor, such as dbpoweramp, this rating is showing as 'LOVE RATING = L'.

This is great  - however it appears now it overlaps when adding the 'highlight' column on either side.   If I set the right side to 'highlight' then skip the middle row, and set the third row to 'time' that avoids the overlap since that moves the 'time' to the second row (instead of third?).

On the left, setting 'highlight' in the first row also creates an overlap.  Ideally the highlight could precede either the title or the time, on the same row.

Thanks for addressing this.

Bug Reports / Re: highlight and love columns overlap

The highlight or love column cannot be moved or widened, and there is no option to auto-size columns in this view.  To confirm what someone else said - it is while 'compact grid' is selected.  I am not in 'detailed list' of the 'albums and tracks' view.

Both love and highlight columns are set - that's why they are overlapping.  From what I understand if the highlight column isn't set, then it wouldn't display like in the screenshot.

Disregard - I discovered this is a separate highlighting system for the album covers themselves, and not for the tracks contained within.  :(

Questions / question about highlight system in 'album covers' view
« on: May 31, 2021, 11:25:55 PM »
I have a question about the 'show highlighting' option when in 'album covers' view.  I use the application-wide highlighting system, but this seems to be separate from that.  How is this used?  The screenshot shows the application-wide system found in preferences, and the separate highlighting system found in configure layout>main panel>customise panel.  I have highlighting rules set, but when I select 'define rules' under the customise panel for album covers, no rules are defined.

Adding the 'highlight' column to the playing tracks panel when in 'track with thumbnail' view doesn't appear viewable.  If I have medium album artwork displayed, adding the 'highlight' column changes the artwork size to something between medium and large, but no highlighting is visible.

Bug Reports / highlight and love columns overlap
« on: May 31, 2021, 09:26:16 PM »
In version 3.4.7805, displaying both the 'highlight' and 'love' columns in 'albums and tracks' view creates a visual artifact as seen on track 3 of the screenshot.  This only occurs when the track is not rated as 'loved' (when it is, the highlight isn't shown at all).  The skin I'm using is DarkGREEN from the Dark-Metro Series:

Questions / Re: right-click>search>find 'album artist'
« on: May 31, 2021, 01:24:32 AM »
I didn't realize middle-clicking any header; album artist, album, etc., produced the same result as right-click>search.  Thanks hiccup.

Any way to alter the right-click>search menu-item to default to album artist over artist?  Still, this worked great and is easier too.

Questions / right-click>search>find 'album artist'
« on: May 30, 2021, 06:27:00 AM »
Currently right clicking a file and selecting 'search' presents the option to search for <artist> field.  Is it possible to alter this, so that it searches for <album artist>?  That would be more useful since the artist fields have non-standard values for including featured artists (i use 'f/' to denote that).
