Questions / How Many Subdirectories & Files Cab MusicBee Handle?
« on: April 02, 2022, 01:52:01 AM »
Hello!  I have a fairly large library with over 100,000 files, or organized by category/artist, etc., so sometimes the library can go down quite a few directory levels.  My question:  Is there a limit to the number of files or sub-directories that MusicBee will track while playing randomly?  I feel like I hear the same 50 or so songs a lot.  Thanks!

General Discussions / Artists Keep Repeating--What am I Doing Wrong?
« on: August 20, 2021, 09:58:58 PM »
I have the do not repeat the same artist checked on the DJ tab, and I have it set to not repeat within 25.   But I'll get Elton John or Queen or Billie Joel back to back all day long.  What am I doing wrong?

MusicBee 3.4.7805
Win10

Side question:  How does Music Bee detect duplicate artists?  Is it taken from the file's metadata or filename or is a hash generated off the file and then, if the hash is known, a database lookup happens to see who the artist is?

Thanks.

Questions / Constant Clicking Sound Renders this Player Unusable
« on: September 18, 2020, 11:30:35 PM »
Hello, I just installed 3.3.7491 on a Win 7 machine after removing an older version from about a year ago.  Now, I hear a constant low-volume "click click click click click click click click" under every song.  Anyone know how to get rid of that?

Questions / Re: Streaming from a NAS - super confused
« on: January 31, 2020, 06:09:08 AM »
Hi all -
You'll quickly see that I know little of what I'm talking about but I promise I'm trying to understand, every day!  Kind of ready to rip my hair out with confusion though :)

So I recently set up a synology NAS - put plex on that and my android phone and I also got a chromecast audio that I can stream easily to.
Thing is I never sit at my PC, so the interface (controller) I'll be using in the living room is my phone or rather, a future tablet purchase.  The problem I'm having is that plex just doesn't have the look and feel i'm going for.

The dream would be to have MB on a tablet and be able to stream directly from NAS to chromecast - but I see this isn't so easy (if not impossible because I don't understand how the various software interact).  I'm well confused about renderer, controller, library etc.  I know there is the UPnP trick to be able to stream to my chromecast - but would that be a direct NAS to chromecast stream??  Or would it be first going through my tablet and then to the chromecast?  And would I actually be using MB on the tablet or would I have to use the UPnP interface?  Managing my music is one thing - but the issue I'm coming with today is the ability to use it as my player.

I see there is a subsonic plugin, and subsonic supports chromecast.....but I'm still getting the impression that on the tablet I would have to use Dsub or some kind of subsonic related app rather than musicbee itself?

Putting chromecast aside, is there any solution out there that would match my desire here?  To be able to pick up a tablet and use musicbee as my player that will stream content direct from NAS to my receiver?

Thanks much for reading my woahs here.
Very sensitive topic as music means so so much to me.  Just want to get this right and start looking forward to pure enjoyment :)

What OS is running on the NAS?  I stream all day long to MB simply by mounting the Linux drive where my music library is via Samba.  No need for all the mucking around with Plex.  Streaming directly over Samba works just fine.  I am have other probs with MB but accessing the content over the LAN isn't one of them.

It's possible to completely remove Windows Media Player: https://www.google.com/amp/s/helpdeskgeek.com/windows-7/uninstall-windows-media-player-from-windows-7/amp/

For question 2, we may need a screenshot showing what you mean by "there it is again". If you added tracks to your library you can't just remove the folder from scanning or monitoring, you have to actually remove the tracks.

Okay--I'll have to figure out how to remove the tracks.  I assumed it learned the playlist each time it was started, well, because, it opens every stinking music file on the Linix box (all 213,991 of them) every time I start MusicBee up.   Since it's a Linux box instead of a windows it has no problem handling it.  Just surprised it has do run through all that if it's already maintaining a playlist.  Seems redundant.  Very redundant.

Thanks.  Sounds like there's no dependency on it; which was my main concern.  I'll rip that bugger right off the laptop.

Now I know someone will ask what version MB I am using.  Good question!  I don't see where that's shown, but I did update to the latest just before Christmas.

Drop the menu to the right of the MusicBee logo, then Help-->About.  That's ONE of your questions down anyway!  ;)

Awesome--thanks.  3.3.7261.

Questions / Sound Device Locked & Directory Selection Problems.
« on: January 31, 2020, 12:06:40 AM »
Hey Guys,  I'm having two problems with MusicBee.  And then a question.

1) MusicBee will merrily play for a few hours and then spontaneously pops up a window that says the sound device is locked.  The only way I can get it to work again is to kill it and restart.  It is playing on a laptop running Windows 7.  That laptop lives in a closet and is dedicated to playing music through the house.  Point is, there's no user actually using the computer when this happens.  Seems to be completely spontaneous.  And yes, I've rebooted the machine.  Any ideas?

2) I have a directory called "Playlist" that I stream from off a Linux server.  All is good there.  Then, before Christmas I added the "Xmas." directory so it would play randomly from both Playlist and Xmas.  Well now I cannot remove Xmas.  I can go into the UI and uncheck the Xmas directory and it no longer shows on the main screen, but then when I restart MusicBee, there it is, right alongside Playlist again.  Any ideas here?

And the Question.  Windows Media Player constantly pops up, wanting me to run through it's wizard when I use MusicBee.  Is this normal?  I prefer not to use Windows Media Player just because I don't like having my metadata sent back to the M$ mothership.

Now I know someone will ask what version MB I am using.  Good question!  I don't see where that's shown, but I did update to the latest just before Christmas.

If not a "folder" what would one use as a source?

Thanks for the reply.

So what does the "restrictions: gap before the same artist can repeat" do on the auto DJ page?

What I am trying to accomplish is for it play randomly from my library for background music in my house but not allow the same artist to play until 25 other artists have played.

I've got the "restrictions: gap before the same artist can repeat" on the auto DJ page set to [25].  This is not the correct way to do it?

Questions / Same Artist Repeating (stoppit!)
« on: December 12, 2019, 05:58:51 AM »
Hey ya'll,

NewB here.  I've got a rather large and diverse mp3 library library that I have playing "randomly" but it ends up being extremely Queen/Elton/Elvis heaving.   I tried setting the don't repeat the same artist until [ ] tracks to 25 but they'll still play the same artist back-to-back.  How to I make it not repeat the artist?

John
